Paladin$ posted : DUH!! Thank you very much for the memory jog.

Xdan -- if that Alcatel you have is an old 1000 then it is very likely that the DSL line is on pins 2-5 of the wall jack. The modern Westell is looking for the DSL line on pins 3-4. That is why the Westell will not work at your house. If you stop by Radio Shack (any anywhere cheaper) you can get a "Y" adapter that breaks out Line-1 and Line-2 from a 2-line jack. Plug that into your DSL wall jack and the Westell into the Line-2 side of the "Y" adapter and it should sync up.

The client software is the same for both modems. Your computer should work in your uncle's modem; his should work in your's (using your log-on password.) Assuming that you are PPPoE and use Username/Password to log onto the DSL.
--
TeleCommunications Installation and Maintenance since 1966
[text was edited by author 2000-11-22 09:36:17]

Duh

anon posted : From Stockton Ca. Pacbell..
Problem #1

Here's the problem after 3 months and 4 modems (2 internal and 2 external) I got my dsl working part of the time (two or three times a day I loose the connection and have to turn the modem and computer off for two minutes (this is what tech support told me)it works so what can I say and any thing is better than the 28.8k max I got before dsl.

Is this correct? (pacbell support 2 min solution)

Problem #2

My uncle loves my dsl even with the problems and signed up, they sent him a wire speed westel model b90-36r516-07(even though he requested the same modem I have an acutel). I suggested since my dsl was working that we install the nic and test his system at my house to confirm the installation was good, that way pacbell would not put him through the hell I went through. We installed the nic and hooked him up to my dsl modem and everything worked great. Next we replaced his dsl modem (wire speed) with mine and nothing, no connection. I reinstalled my modem (acutel) and no problem connecting. I thought maybe the software is different for the different modems but the wire speed did not come with any software. I called tech support but they said they could not do anything until my uncle's service is on (dec. 3rd).

Any suggestions?
Is the software different for different modems?

[text was edited by author 2000-11-21 14:00:43]

[text was edited by author 2000-11-21 18:27:19]
