What you fail to comprehend it that Microsoft hogs everything, processor power, memory, bandwidth, hard drive space, $$$money etc. Microsoft programs are so big because they won't take the time to make them slender and efficient. Bigger isn't better in software, any more than it is in a PhD dissertation.
I don't care what you hear Mr. Gates talk about, because he is a liar, and those who believe his promises without verification are foolish.
