You forget that even though Verzion is a reseller they are also a competitor. When I called Verizon to inquire about their service I was told that not only would I get 1500/256 but I could also get a static IP and for only 20 bucks more!!!! Same line same CO. It really sucks but the same ma bell attitude still prevails. Charge more while locking out your competitors by limiting the services they can offer.

Now that Im done ranting. I have used ELN for a few years now. DSL for 10 months. I placed an order and my modem was here 5 days later. When I plugged in the modem my line was already set up. But the best thing about ELN is they do not care what you do with your line. They were one of the few providers who did not shut down port 80 a few months ago. They also do not care if you run a home network (like I do). Their only stipulation is that if you do not purchase their home network service they will not support the second tier cpu's.
Service has always been grate and they do not f@$k with me.

I will now step down from the soap box

That's when Earthlink and Telocity will come out of the basement level.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. ELN has only purchased the Bronze Plus plan from Verizon (768/128), so that's what they give you, but you can get higher speeds through ELN with Covad. Verizon on the other hand, offers the same Bronze Plus plan, as well as their Bronze Plus Enhanced - $10 more and 15/128 speeds. People being promised 1.5/256 but getting 768/128 (I suspect this is why DirectTV isn't available here yet). Also, static IPs are a value added service and not that widely available.

My own conclusion, if Covad is available in your area then order it through them. If your circuit is VZ provisioned find someone around you who has Earthlink and see what they are actually getting.

dsldan posted : Has anyone here switched from Verizon DSL to Earthlink DSL? I'm wondering what the experience was like.

I'm getting a little disillusioned with Verizon. Earthlink is faster, offers more mailboxes, the option of a static IP, and 20 hours of dialup included, plus they're a *real* ISP. They block port 25, but at least I can have a From address of my choosing.

Downside: I've heard of Earthlink starting to charge customers for service even before their DSL kits arrive, if they ever arrive. They require a 12 month commitment. Then if you cancel they hit you with the cancellation charge. And Earthlink has never turned a profit. Makes me wonder if it'll be another NorthPoint Communications ...

Comments?
