You won't lose the email addy, but you will lose the ability to use the MSN browser. The only way to get your msn email afterwards is to log in at hotmail.com with your msn email and password.

Well OK. Since it hasn't disconnected yet, can you visit »192.168.1.1/transtat.htm and see what it says? It should come up with Tranceiver stats. If you have a newer modem, log right into »192.168.1.1 and visit System Monitor or something similar at the top, and then click on Advanced and then Transceiver Stats. Post them up here as those may show us why you were disconnecting.

You'd have to connect your computer directly to the modem to see transceiver stats.

Verizon with MSN Premium is now discontinued, and as far as e-mail is concerned, it's actually worse than Microsoft's free Windows Live Hotmail offering. I can't upgrade my Hotmail accounts to Live (to get 5GB inbox, new web interface, etc.) because it's tied to Verizon with MSN Premium. The only reason I've kept Verizon with MSN Premium is because e-mail accounts don't expire with inactivity.

Well one thing to show from that is you have some very good stats attenuation wise, but something is degrading your signal a bit, as in adding noise to the line making your margin lower than it should be. I can tell that because your upstream isn't even synced properly. If you have a NID, plug the modem into that and post back up the line stats. The upstream resyncing might account for the disconnects.

Did you say that your router is using 192.168.1.1? That might be part of the problem. The modem and the router might both be trying to use 192.168.1.1 at the same time. Try changing your router to 192.168.2.1.

The NID is the box usually on the outside wall of your house. Half of it is "locked" and for use by the phone company only, they other half is held closed usually by a screw. Open it up and plug your modem into the test jack inside, you do have to unplug the line that is already plugged in. Test your stats and put everything back as it was.

in that case you probably don't have access to the NID, it's probably in some utility closet in the basement that the "super" or landlord has the keys to.

Just get a G-Mail account or similar that you can keep through ISP changes.
