I agree, and with many of the groups in the 180-190 range (there are several that have achieved 200 and beyond) we felt that stating 175-180 is a good safe number as to not mislead customers.
Xennews may state 200 simply because some groups are there..so you are right, they are not lying to you, and if seeing 200 on there website makes you feel better, then that is great. If you look at the most recent Giganews thread here, you will see some users noting retention has dropped to about 230 days...Giganews is still stating 240 on there website. Are they false advertising?
In usenet marketing, retention numbers is one of, or THE thing to push on people..lets face it, it draws them in. I would love to throw 200-210 days on our site, it would be all the hype, however I know it would not be realistic right now. So I realize the numbers we have now are setting us back a bit right now among the competition, but at least theres more truth behind it, we are cutting down on support tickets asking why xyz group is not at 200 days and I can feel a bit better by not misleading folks. Take it for what its worth though I guess.
