I got the Xfi sound card drivers to load for me. Download the files from Creative then right click on the executable and select Troubleshooting Compatibility. It will give you an option to install like an older version of windows.

exactly how i installed my Xfi, just told it to run as Vista64. really this is more a creative issue as they dont have a Windows 7 Beta driver that knows what OS signature to look for(id imagine that is all it is since if the installer is run in Vista mode it has zero issues and the drivers have caused me zero BSOD).

Being a beta, Kaspersky8 does not always update. The definitions etc. are not updated as frequently as a released product, there are never any updates on weekends, sometimes a week or more may pass by before an update is actually available. Windows 7 Action Center and KAV8beta both seem to complain if it is more than 24 hours since the last update was implemented. It just updated now and all is quiet again.

System locks when doing "experience" benchmark - likely due to chipset drivers - can't seem to install these........

Of note, please see attached screen... event viewer claims that ZA Firewall is not compatible with Vista :D
Disabled the built in firewall and all is good...

Avira to Zone Alarm firewall working here. Only thing that doesn't seem to work is Netflix on IE 8 :(

Also have Rhapsody working fine, CCleaner, Firefox, and Virtual PC working. Haven't had time to test much else.

Will probably try it on a machine with better hardware soon - and then try other/more software etc. as well. Thought it'd be fun to see how it compared to Vista on an 'older' box first, and I must say it's surprisingly smooth. Would probably be comparable to performance of XP if not slightly better in some cases.

Probably wouldn't run as well as XP on a computer much older, I'd say their threshold for hardware requirements are a reasonable place to start. XP with lesser hardware would probably be a better choice, esp. regarding the disk space required for an installation. Currently, it looks like the Windows folder is taking up nearly 8GB. If I were using a 40GB drive, that's painfully close to 1/4 of total capacity. Hibernation + Page files would put it at almost exactly 25% of 40GB. Worth considering I guess, esp. since 'older' machines may still have drives of this size (and/or less).

7 is Vista ;)

There are over 20 different products within the CS4 suite - is there one in particular you're having trouble with?

FWIW, I have the entire CS4 Master Collection and have already used the CS4 versions of Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop under Windows 7 without any problems.

The only thing that might be different is that my CS4 was already installed in Vista, and I simply upgraded to Win 7 vs. doing a clean install. (Seems like some people are having trouble with the installers for some apps, but the apps themselves may work fine if they were already installed prior to the upgrade.)

Booted back into Windows and you nailed it. UAC was off for some reason. I don't know what changed the setting but I turned it back on and the gadgets are back. Thanks a lot.

This is all that I've tried so far. One thing that has me stumped is my desktop gadgets. They have disappeared and I can't get them back. I can't even open the gadget browser. I'm still looking at this one. I haven't removed the gadget service or anything stupid like that. They just stopped working.

Sound and video on Asus P4P800-MX mainboard.

The SoundMax driver on Windows Update installs fine, says it's working but there's no audio.

I needed to uninstall that driver, install chipset drivers for this board, then install audio drivers for the P4P800S-X board [which aren't corrupt like the P8P800-MX drivers on the various Asus download sites and work on the P4P800-MX when installed in XP compatibility mode and with admin rights]. I've been using Virtual Clone drive since the above two do not work, and honestly don't think I'll go back even if they get fixed. I find it much easier to use, and a lot faster at actually mounting the iso images.

Unfortunately when printing, I'm low on one toner, which is on order, but the print gets an error message due to this then tries to reprint.

This doesn't happen for the Windows 7 32 bit beta with Vista 32 bit drivers installed.

I think there is an error in the spool recovery which causes it to keep trying to reprint when getting a non-critical error (which is really a warning, the printer is LOW not out of toner). Lets hope this gets fixed.

The same error happened when Windows 7 first discovered the printer. I needed to install the Brother driver to get the scanner and fax operational.

ConvertXtoDVD Works... for the other other two people out there that use it ;)

Burnaware free and Ashampoo Burning Studio free (6.75) WOULD NOT burn a disc. Burnaware couldn't see my burner at all, Ashampoo could see my burner but failed to see the blank DVD/CD-RW in the drive.

I've tried my trusty Comodo with vista compatibility
and running Administrator, and it installs, but
it will not run updates, and it treats all outbound
apps as system apps. It seems to be a known bug
when you look at their site, but no word when it's going
to drop.

So, if I'm going to test this I'd like to be safe as
possible. I'm not sure if I trust the one that came with
win7..

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 7, like Vista x64, requires all drivers to be signed before installation. You can disable this at the F8 boot prompt, but you have to do it EVERY time you boot for the driver to work.

I have to do this with my Garmin. I tried installing Windows 7 32bit as well as 64bit. I tried the Windows Vista 32bit and 64bit drivers as well as Windows XP drivers but no go. I ran in campatibility mode for XP Pro and Vista. :-( The installer is just very buggy, it will sometimes freeze, or it will say it installed but it really didn't, or it will only install part of the program.
