Can't catch a break!A/C and heat pump problems that FINALLY got fixed last week, found my roof missing shingles last Friday night on my way up our alley, my car started acting up Saturday and is in the shop today, and last night we found we have a problem with our side by side refrigerator/freezer! The A/C and heat pump cost us $1300 because I thought it was out of warranty and had another vendor work on it. Then when the compressor died, I dug out my receipts and found we had 9 months left on the 10 year parts and labor warranty, so that was covered. The shingles will either cost us our $500 deductible or the repair fee if under $500. My WRX is still under the 3/36 and the extended warranty. It started acting up on my way home from a pool match Saturday. I thought it was the fuel filter, but later found out the fuel filter on the 2006 is in the gas tank and is not serviceable! Seems odd that a fuel filter, no matter where it's located would last the lifetime of a vehicle!?! So, assuming whatever is wrong is covered by warranty, I won't have to pay the $96 diagnostic fee. Waiting for the dealership service manager to call me back on it. I'm sitting on the patio smoking a Don Kiki brown label Toro, waiting for the appliance repair guy to call me back before he shows up sometime between 11:00 and 13:00. What's next?!? I must have some bad karma to work off! |

Wow, what a bad run of luck! Hopefully you are past the "bad things happen in 3s" so you should have a turn around! |

"Things" can be fixed, as long as everyone is in good health you've been given a major break. |

$594 for the refrigerator/freezer motherboard and thermostat. Fortunately, they part is in stock and they can get to it today. I've got to pull everything out of the refrigerator and freezer. Unfortunately, my car is in the shop and my cooler is at a friends house, so my wife is taking off work to pick up some Styrofoam coolers and ice to drop off. |

Michael, I apologize in advance - this is just the way my sick mind operates: said by nozero:$594 for the refrigerator/freezer motherboard and thermostat. Motherboard? what processor? how much memory? can you fold on that refrigerator? |

No apology needed. I posted that knowing somebody would ask just those questions. When the guy called for the price and said "motherboard" I knew I was in for a hit... He's working on it now and I'm thinking he's found other issues... The darn thing is only 3 years old and we paid $2500 for it. I guess I should have bought the extended warranty. |

After hearing him mention the compressor, I dug out our invoice and found that the refrigerator is covered by an extended warranty. So, I'm only out the $69 service call, since they are not an authorized Whirlpool repair vendor. The bad news is, they can't get to me until 2PM tomorrow. I do have food spoilage coverage, though. |

Yoiks! nozero, who did you tick off recently?
I am still jealous of 'ya however...I finally had to swear off my beloved stogies...with Anne dealing with cancer and quitting a pretty much life-long smoking habit, I figured it was the least that I could do. I know that Carlos Torano Exodus 1959's aren't "good" for me...but they sure didn't make me feel bad either... |

Sorry you've got these headaches. We have to get another fridge here too! For us, since we are, well, poor, we are getting a simple, basic, $150 used unit. I suppose it's nice to have nice things, but the bills, oh the bills from it all! |

Santa Ana winds damaged my roof this last season... so in two weeks I get to pony up 5700 bucks for an entire new roof. If any of the sheeting needs replacing, that price will go up. No Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve stogies for me for awhile.
Rain got in during this last soaker we had in the past few days and the laundry room ceiling collapsed.
On the bright side, Nanners' chronic diarrhea seems to have cleared up, so to hell with the roof.... my sugar booger dog is healthy, so are the kids and grandkid, my belly was filled tonight with the best chicken/vegetable/rice stew I've ever tasted (I made it, of course) and life is good. |

Thanks for the kind words! I'm hangin in there... And things are turning around.
Turns out the refrigerator/freezer is covered by the 4 year extended warranty we purchased or the manufacturers warranty. So I was only out the $69 service call, since that company was not authorized to do warranty work. The authorized rep found that the unauthorized guy left the compressor unplugged, which is why we lost most of the food we had stored in it and he also found a loose wire on the fan that cools the compressor, the circuit board and helps to dry any water that has dripped into the defrost pan. It's working now and we will just have to watch it for a while to see how it goes.
Got my car back too! And it was all covered under warranty as well. The mass air flow sensor was bad and was replaced.
The insurance guy showed up today as well and left me a check to get the roof replaced. We'll see how that goes...
Considering how crappy I felt this morning when I got up and sent email notification that I was taking sick leave. The day is turning out OK and I feel a little bit better. I just don't like having to deal with this stuff, especially when I'm feeling poorly. |

Bummer man. I'm hoping to get away with only having to pay my $500 deductable, but hey, that could change. That guy was up on my roof for over a half an hour, marked it all up with orange? chalk. My dogs were going nuts over it and barking much of the time, which didn't help my headache one bit. Glad to hear Nanners diarrhea is cleared up, but I think she sent it to me. That's the main reason I stayed home today. Any chile peppers in that chicken/vegatablee/rice stew? |

Sorry for a truly dreadful series of events, Michael... you musta' had some gremlin get wet or fed after midnight some time, I guess... Not much comfort, but I can honestly say from recent experience that it will surely improve. We are exactly 2 months from the ice storm that left us with a tree through the roof, water running down our walls, no power for 12 days, a ruined fridge, ceilings coming down, and no place to live... ~blah~ Now, we have gotten this place a good way towards being put back together, and there really is a light at the end of the tunnel. Can't quite laugh at it yet, but maybe in a year or two... I would expect that in time, you will feel about the same way. (However, I am still kicking myself about *not* having had a decent generator before- we always needed one) I, too, second howie's question- what WU's does a Whirlpool motherboard handle, and how fast does that fridge fold? If it is good perhaps I will get one- the repair guy says that ours is not worth fixing, that the last outage killed it pretty well. I believe that mine will handle the "Sledgehammer" WU once in the backyard... Sincerely hoping that your headache improves quickly and your guts feel better, too... Don't eat Jack's cooking until *everything* feels better! |

Still home sick and waiting for the third refrigerator/freezer repair guy...
I know my "problems" were NOTHING compared to yours and some experienced by others. I was just feeling a little sorry for myself. I'd probably still be bouncing off the walls if I'd have been through what you have...
For what it's worth, I hope you end up better off when it's all over with. |

OK SA... Yeah, it's still running and I still have to cut my wife's and my hair from the brush assembly every time I go to use it. Our carpet looks so bad now, it's almost not worth the effort. Funny, when I was told about the fuel filter being in the gas tank of my WRX and it not being serviceable, I thought immediately of the Dyson and it's belt... I do recall hearing that they have increased the length of the manufacturers warranty, but could not easily find out more about this on their website. |

Well, the third repair guy found and fixed the problem. It was a broken connection on the circuit board that runs the cooling fan. Fortunately, he had the part in his van and had it repaired in under an hour, all under warranty at no cost to us. And, we get to submit an itemized list of the food we lost due to spoilage. Now, if the roof replacement goes well and nothing else takes a nose dive for a while, I'll be a happy camper... |
