They basically have that in there to try and "encourage" people to NOT use ooma for telemarketing or as a business line. Their intent is for ooma to be a residential-only service, and the stated 3,000 minute limit gives them an easy out if they discover that someone is using ooma to place telemarketing calls or use it as their main business phone line.

HolmanGT posted : nitzan,

The problem with the false advertisement is EVERYONE is doing it.

My AT&T unlimited data plan is limited. I turned that feature on to listen to XM radio on my cell which they had listed under the Unlimited Data Plan. The very first time I attempted to use it a message popped up that said "You might want to consider the "Ultimate Unlimited Plan because this feature uses a lot of band width".

The only Company I have seen get a reprimand for this type of thing lately was some Drug Company on TV. They had to post a new add that said they got caught over pitching the Birth Control aspect of their product and the FDA wanted us to tell you that it will really not "Take your dog out for a walk" or something to that effect. And in my opinion the retraction commercial was done in a flippant manner and tone.

If AT&T and big name Drug Manufacturers can get away with this crap-ola some small VoIP outfit must be so far below the radar that they will never come under scrutiny.

But I definitely agree with you Nitzan, something needs to be done, albeit this type of thing has been going on for a very long time in a lot of markets. As long as the controlling agencies don't find the claims being made hazardous to your health they seem to turn a blind eye to the problem.

pandora posted : I think an Ooma Core unit, can handle 2 lines, but they go through only a single POTS line. To get the additional line to work requires an Ooma Scout which has a DSL-like connection to the Ooma Core.

I would prefer a situation like the PAP2T where there are 2 separate POTS lines coming out.

Once the 2nd Ooma unit arrives, I'll report back.

In many ways voip internet services like Future-Nine are more capable. The PAP2T does take up less desk space, and is less noticeable in a jumble of cables. The Ooma also has large, functional, buttons which can be pressed by accident.

I'd prefer to use the Ooma service via a PAP2T, but that isn't permitted.

The more I use Ooma, the more it's superior voice quality becomes apparent. It is most noticeable when two people are talking at the same time. I'm not certain what the technical term is, but with a SIP VOIP call, there is warble, stutter, noise, whatever you want to call it. With Ooma when two speak at the same time, you can hear what each is saying clearly, it is more like the landline experience. Maybe it's duplexing, maybe it's different delay, I don't know. Ooma provides a more landline-like experience for voice quality.
--
"People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use."
