Re: [rant] Mac customer service.

The defective LCDs have been mostly confined to iMacs so you shouldn't need that deer stand. I absolutely hate the now-trendy "glossy" screens on laptops though. Unless you have a backlight rivaling the sun in brightness the reflection makes them almost useless except for indoors, in a windowless room. But Apple is not alone in this affliction. If you are used to a matte screen, it'll bug you big time.

It goes both ways (ha! ok... calm yourself down jdong, it's 1AM and the 8th cup of coffee since 3:30AM...)

After using a lot of glossy screens I was sorely disapointed by the viewing angle and display contrast of a matte IBM Thinkpad X61 at work. There's a tradeoff to be made and personally I favor the glossy screens.

Actually I'm comparing the screen on a matte MacBook Pro with a glossy. The viewing angle is about the same but the usability sucks on the glossies compared to matte.

Of course, there is a good argument to be made against wide viewing angles on a notebook if for no other reasons than security. I guess it depends on what your application is, but I defy you to use a glossy MBP outside on a sunny day...the blue sky reflection kills the display. Mine (matte) is quite legible.
