It isnt a private network for just them and there Usenet offerings...they have actually managed to assemble a pretty decent network that anyone can sign on to to get there bandwidth rich apps out there. »hwng.net/ They can use any number of the 5 or more carriers since they have an agreement with them all. Some have made the mistake that when they see there hops show up in traces they assume that the end service is highwinds owned (typically usenet but not always)...This is not the case...we do utilize there network services, but only because there network is great for moving around bulk bandwidth.

It seems like they have tiered retention. You get higher retention if you pay more. Which makes me think that they are either going to introduce new tier with 400 days retention or bump their NHXL tier to 400 days. In either case you're paying at least $20. However, I would not expect Giganews to announce any new perks/retention upgrades/price cuts anytime in the immediate future. Doing this so quickly after touting "We are the leaders in Usenet with our new retention" would mean admitting that the competition is now just as strong as they are. For so long Giganews enjoyed being thought of as the creme de la creme of the Usenet providers.
