Well, they move slow enough to be union workers.

One telephone pole at a time. Haha... it's a wonder the telephone system ever got done based on that video.

The days when service actually meant that. Now, it's "we'll help ya, for an outrageous fee".

They even said in the video that the linesmen had the best safety record in the country.

That's generalizing. Not all unions or union employers are the same. My shop is union. Our prices to our customers are in line with our competitors that are non-union. We workers make a little more, the boss man makes a little less, that is where the trade off is. The company is pulling through this recession in the black. Not something that can be said for many of our competitors. So no one can argue the extra wages we get are hurting the company.

We are getting paid what we are worth. In my industry (HVAC/R) non-union guys are working for near poverty wages. There is no reason 2 years minimum schooling and ongoing field training should be rewarded with $10-$15 an hour pay. That is where the shame is.

You're thinking of overhead powerline linemen. Which, by far, is still the most dangerous job for an electrician to this day.

Great video. Nice to see that some things haven't changed too much.

No SAFETY glasses? --- DAY OFF!!!!

No manhole fresh air venting? --- DAY OFF!!!!

No hard hat when working aloft? You get the point.

Thanks to those who came before me that helped build the company that feeds my family.

Also thanks to those who sacrificed their safety so that I can go home to the family with all my limbs.

I wonder if 'telco' workers still enjoy the lowest injury rate per man hours worked?

You couldn't tell in my garage!!!! LOL, we always have guys on 'light duty'
