Re: What can Macs NOT do?

yah, i guess the images showed for me on the preview because i had them in my cache. if you click on the last link in that page, you can see the benchmarks. the G4 867 holds up well (and in some cases the dual 800 does great), but as a whole the sheer mhz power of the Athlon XP is too much. once apple goes with DDRRAM and increased clock speeds, i'm expecting the lead by x86 architecture to go down by a ton. more developers making use of Altivec can do much to improve Apple also.

do U think ur posts should be ignored?
can't i type things like Ur hero Cringely?
relax dude.
i think he's a good journalist who writes thought-provoking articles. i may not agree all the time, but at the least i'm entertained.

the big wintel megahertz speed is what i was referring to.
how am i going off on a tangent?
how many GHz speed was ur AMD box that U built?
wintel refers to Windows + Intel - i'm not using Intel. i'm talking about Apple's Mhz Myth argument (which is partially true), and you run off about fan noise. that's a tangent. btw, the speed of the chip is ~1.5ghz, not overclocked.

Well you have to remember, the OS itself does quite a drastic difference in utilising your processor. Apple users say that the Classic (OS 9.x) may not be as stable as the OS X, yet it's greater in speed. Perhaps the fact that it has a more mild GUI. I, myself, haven't been able to test out a Mac lately hands on, except for a couple weeks ago at a Ciruit City. It was an iMac (didn't catch which processor chip) preloaded with OS X. I'll admit that it looked very sleek, seemd stable, and there was no loss in speed. However this was with no apps running. I wasn't about to overload it for I felt like it would get me in some trouble. :-D Once again I have yet to see for myself if the Apple chips are what they claim. For now all I have are reviews and comments, which I feel are indeed honest enough to convince me.

ahh yes..my mistake about "wintel".
sorry, i meant pc in general.

all right......U built a 1.5 Ghz AMD box,
which doesn't seem to be a big comparison deal.
performance wise i was involving the noise and cooling factors by my comments.

...something of which i can well imagine U and Cringely would
bring into the discussion if
U or Cringely had the chance to tangent,
so i say again,
relax dude.

why do you keep fixating on cringley? you're the one that keeps mentioning him in this thread for some reason. usually going off on a tangent means you can't argue the point at hand, at least this is what i've noticed in my political debates class. you keep doing it again and again.

if you looked at the benchmarks site, you'd realize that the Athlon XP 1700 still beats a G4 867 and dual G4 800 quite convincingly. i'm actually quite calm, i just find this 'debate' between you and i funny.
