[hard drive] Intel SSD, write speed only 110MB/secI have a Dell laptop XPS M 2010 and just bought a Intel SSD. The write speed should be 250MB/sec and I'm only getting 110-115MB/sec. Spent many hours with Intel tech support and they don't know. This is my second SSD from Intel because I thought the first one wasn't working properly, the new one they sent, same thing. Dell says the XPX M 2010 supports 250MB/sec, the chipset I have is: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Chipsets or Intel(R) 945GT Express Chipset. Any help would be highly appreciated. My e-mail address is: BoJ.Fenner@MunitechMotorcars.com Speed checked with HD Tune |

Perhaps this forum for the OCZ SSDs might help? » www.ocztechnologyforum.c ··· hp?f=186There is probably some forum for the Intel SSDs as well but you'd have to go poking around. |

sequential write is just a marketing spec. real world speed is largely determined by small random IOs like 4kb random read and write speeds and latencies.
make sure you have the newest chipset drivers installed from Intel.com/downloads and then bench the small operations speeds. also, you formatted the laptop after installed the Intel drive, correct? |

Thank you guys. It seems like I'm the only one who has this problem. I do have the latest drivers and it has been formatted, thank you, Bo |

Make sure the drive is set to UDMA mode and not PIO. |

What SSD provides 250MB/sec write? The fastest I've seen are advertised at about 200MB/sec. |

Guys, I was referring to the read speed, sorry my mistake. The thing is that I tested the the second brand new drive when I received it from Intel after formatting without an OS on it, same thing around 115MB/sec read speed, thank you, Bo |

Do you have another system you can connect your SSD to and see how it behaves on that system? |

Re: [hard drive] Intel SSD, read speed only 110MB/secBarney, not at this time. I don't think it's the SSD. It might have to do with the ICH7 or with my drivers, someone told me it would support only 150MB/sec. Intel said the ICH7 would work with 250MB/sec. Thank you, Bo |

Barney, not at this time. I don't think it's the SSD. It might have to do with the ICH7 or with my drivers, someone told me it would support only 150MB/sec. Intel said the ICH7 would work with 250MB/sec. Thank you, Bo It depends on what specific revision/model of ICH7. ICH7 is a series. Most (but not all) revisions support SATA300, which supports up to 300MB/sec worth of bandwidth per channel. The other revisions support SATA150 only. If you want a more verbose answer, I can give you one (including giving you reference material at Intel's site), but you'll need to figure out what *exact* model and revision/stepping of ICH7 you have. You're only reaching 115MB/sec on read, so I don't think SATA150 vs. SATA300 is the problem here. |
