Outage? - 11:05pm - May 3rd

Umm Ok, 11:05pm I got disconnected. I could reconnect right away but not get past ERX01. Everything came back up at 11:19pm.

Something definitely just happened.... not sure what just yet, but looks like one of routers just rebooted.... I know we've been running relatively smoothly on the same stuff from Christmas with the hopes of getting to the new equipment due in in a couple of weeks.... Will update once I get more details.

edit: marc just beat me to the post...

Not sure what the MLPPP issue is. I rebooted my router and it came back right away. 2x5mbps in MLPPP, Asus WL-520GU and 2x2wire 2700's

Edit: added h/w specs

here are the plans:

Our Juniper hardware has been delayed due to unforeseen complications, it was originally slated to arrive over a month ago. We have a pair of E320's on the way.

We also have 3 new AGAS ready and waiting, so as soon as the new gear arrives, we should be able to get it all up and running relatively quickly.

The E320's are slated to ship on the 12th of May. Figure a few days until they are in our hands assuming there aren't any border issues.

The MLPPP issues are largely fixed in the Tunnel Server modules are largely immune to these MLPPP problems.

ERX01 currently has 1x HDE blade with a built in tunnel server. These blades are especially susceptible to MLPPP problems.

Going forward, all ERX's that have HDE blades in them will need to have MLPPP completely disabled. It seems the best way to do this will be to dedicate a realm name just to MLPPP. The list would no longer exist and MLPPP will need to be a completely separate service. I will likely dedicate an ERX1440 with one or more Service Modules.

Speaking of "the list"...if I'm not on it still then I do need to be put back on it. I did end up subscribing to a second line again

Would single-link MLPPP connections be considered part of that separate service?

Posts like these are why TSI is the best.

Also how will we get an account on the new realm. Will we have to call or will users on the list just be added to it ?.

these are the details that need to be worked out. MLPPP happens to currently have desirable side effects, however, the primary use is generally bonding multiple lines. In the current configuration, as mentioned in my previous post on this subject, there are problems and abuse going on. The general structure will need to change in order to realign every-body's interests. Rocky and I haven't talked it over yet. I guess with the upgrades coming and the overall peripheral politics associated with MLPPP these days, we've been trying to avoid the subject as long as possible. Given the frequency of the problems though, I don't know that we have that luxury anymore.

once we figure out exactly what we'll be doing, we'll come up with a plan to deal with all of that..

How widespread is this "abuse"? I will admit that I do download the odd torrent(legit or not) but for the most part I use MLPPP for providing better access to my website with as little cost as possible. If I had some h/w to dedicate to webspace then I would consider faster access. For a 2D MMO and a basic account maker website though, my everyday PC and 2 lines in MLPPP config are the most convenient and cost efficient.

um, by "abuse" I'm mean things like two logins from two different physical DSL lines, and only one line is a TekSavvy line.

The fact is that two lines bonded is not the same as one line. The costs are different. The pricing structure needs to be looked at to reflect this reality. We don't know what might be fair for everybody, we don't want to push people away but at the same time we need to protect ourselves.

O OK. That definition of abuse is totally understandable. As far as the pricing between single and bonded lines...does it work for or against you? Or does TSI even have the liberty to disclose that? If it works in your favor then I feel most of us MLPPP users would support that "price difference" and if it works against you than I bet most of us would still support a slight increase to keep on the cutting edge of the internet, like TSI has done so far.
The "TekSavvy Difference" is a real thing. I can tell that Rocky remembers what it was like when he paid (probably)AOL or CompuServe a retarded amount of $$$ for pretty much nothing. He wants to see the little guy get the most he can for his money and so he makes sure we do.
Mad props to Rocky, Marc and the whole crew for keeping the internet in check as best as you can.

Two lines is already in the area of 80-90 which I think is quite enough. I would be happy if I didn't have to pay for the 2nd login even if there was a small fee it would be better then this.

5/12/2009 - Residential - 5M 29.95
5/17/2009 - Residential - 5M 29.95
5/17/2009 - Band C - Dry DSL 10.22
5/12/2009 - Static IP 4.00
5/12/2009 - /29 Subnet 10.00

keeping in mind I only get 3mbit per line for now. I would settle for removing the 2nd 29.95 feed and maybe paying a extra $7-10 fee for the MLPPP part.

If the price needs to increase for ml-ppp users I would have no problem with $5 aditional per month for ml-ppp, Anything more then that for residental might be a bit steep.

Business's on the other hand should probably be paying more
