Couldn't even drive the one since my knees were in the controls and the other was few years from new but still not comfortable. The usual way to solve this is to reduce any work room under the hood. Might be apples to oranges but they are pretty similar.

They might be fine for normal traffic, but on interstates I wouldn't want to drive one against a semi. What Honda did you get?

We went in because they had a great deal on the Civic Value Package, but when we both saw the new '09 Fit, we loved it. We test drove the Fit Sport and while it is woefully underpowered for me, it's perfect for her. It has a lot of super cool options, including built in iPod support (via USB, not aux jack) and tons of room. She wound up with the "Blackberry Pearl" color too which won't make me look like a complete wuss when I have to drive it. They had to locate one in that color, so we won't get it until Monday or Tuesday. She's really excited though.

Very nice--the Fit is an attractive car with a lot of nice things inside. I love the USB iPod support over AUX. I hear you about the power - I'nm a power guy myself. Right now, I drive an 09 Maxima with more power than I need, which is usually where I like to keep it. I'd have a tough-time in the Fit performance wise, yet there are drawbacks and advantages for every automobile, I suppose.

My brother is off to Rhode Island for his residency, and desperately needs to replace his 1995 Nissan Altima, as it's just not too reliable anymore. It wasn't really taken care of properly, and though it's 13+ years old, it only has 45,000 miles. Amazing, but time did it's thing, I suppose. I may suggest the Fit for him--or at least some Honda. Rhode Island can get a little hairy with the snow, so perhaps I'll look for an AWD option for him, but Honda cars will definitely be considered.

(I almost bought a Honda lawnmower a few weeks ago, as I hear the engines are awesome, but I couldn't bring myself to pay $200 over the nice Toro just for a lawn mower engine.) ;)
--
"Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin

[my ramblings]

Jeff posted : Congrats! What Honda did you get?

My fiancee has driven Honda/Acura since she was 18, same for a lot of my general family. It's either Japanese or American for us these days; we tried the German car route (Audi, VW) and while they are fun to drive, they just had too many reliability problems to consider ownership again, at least in the short term. Times change, and if I ever win the lotto, the Audi RS6 is on my list. :)

My fiancee bought an 03 Honda CR-V and loved it. I was actually going to buy it from her, but couldn't make a decision in time. She traded that into the Acura dealer in 2006, and picked up an MDX. I'm sort of against the gas mileage of those big SUVs, but it has it's perks.

Anyway, good luck with the new car!
--
"Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin

[my ramblings]

Matt3 posted : Went shopping for a new car yesterday and today for the GF. There are SMOKING deals to be had and great financing rates if you have good credit.

American Honda came back with 7% on a 36-month lease (and yes, I know the pros and cons and a lease made the most sense for us right now) as their initial offer. I expected it to be 10% or so and I would haggle them from there. We wound up getting the car for $500 over dealer invoice (Hey, I know the car dealerships have to make money too.) and American Honda Finance eventually matched the rate we would have gotten from our credit union.

This was our first new Honda and I had a wonderful experience. Much different than the other pushy dealerships I've dealt with. I'll definitely consider another Honda or Acura when it's time to get rid of our other car.
