CallVantage TA Return or NotMy porting to Ooma is complete.
On the CallVantage site it says that you will not have to return the TA.
However here is a quote from my disconnect email:
Quote . . .
If you have been on the service for less than one year, you will receive a Fed Ex package in approximately 2-5 business days with a prepaid postal Return label and letter explaining the instructions for returning the Telephone Adapter (TA). We ask that you use this label to return your TA to us.
If we receive your TA within 16 days of 05/21/2009, you will receive a refund of the final amount you paid AT&T for the adapter (after any promotions on your original TA order were applied). If we do NOT receive your TA within 16 business days of 05/21/2009, you will be assessed a one-time service disconnect fee as described when you signed up for the service.
Sincerely,
AT&T CallVantage Service Team

Have you called someone at customer support to ask? Honestly, I'd think they wouldn't want them...
Do you have any reason to keep the ATA? (in other words, do you know how to and plan to unlock it?) |

I have no reason to call them. Either I get the prepaid postage package or I don't. I can't remember what month last year I signed up for CallVantage. But the email clearly states if you have had CallVantage for less r than a year, they will send the return package.
The instructions and the firmware to unlock the D-Link are easily found with a Google search. I don't need it, I already have a D-Link that I'm not using. I just thought it might be of interest to others. |

I thought I had CV for more than a year but turned out not. AT&T sent a Fedex pre-paid label so I boxed up my TA and sent it back. Which D-Link model do you have? I didn't see any unlocking procedure for mine, DVG-5102S so no regrets. |

I have the same question, as I've left CV for TinCanTalk...or rather got forced to leave with CV shutting down service. Unfortunately, I e-cycled my Centillium TA before getting the email AND Fed Ex return label, so I wonder what the disconnect fee will be. I've had the service for probably 4 years. |

They send the FedEx labels to everyone. If you have had the service more than a year, just toss the label in a file for a few months. I had 2 Callvantage lines and disconnected them at different times but both were after a year. With each disconnect, I got the label. I ignored it and was never charged. |

Well, personally I think they are all screwed up with this shut down procedure.
In the letter I received it said you wouldn't have to return the TA period. But, in the email of disconnect it is an exact copy of the words in the help file over on Callvantage. I think they just picked up the words in copy/paste.
I never did think the Callvantage employees were very knowledgeable about their help and I never had the feeling there were many of them. I loved the service but calling there versus U-Verse techs was a world of difference.
I have not received my return label or package and it said within 2-5 days. But, there was a Holiday in there. So we will see.
Nowhere do I see any reference to the exact dollar amount of a disconnect fee. That's kind of crazy in itself. |

AT&T CallVantage® Disconnecting Your Service What should I do with my TA (Telephone Adapter) after my service is disconnected or moved?
AT&T recommends that you disconnect your TA from your network or ISP equipment and reconnect your network without the TA. You do not need to return the TA to AT&T. The telephone features, jacks, and lights will not work and AT&T CallVantage TAs are not compatible with other services.

If they send me a prepaid shipping label they can have it. Otherwise to the landfill it goes. |

Someone posted a tutorial on here for unlocking some of the D-Links. Hell, put it on ebay for a $1. Don't toss it. |

You can call the tech support and have a return label sent out...it's not that hard and it's about a 5 minute or less phone call.... |
