Wow..

I really am starting to dislike AT&T. They really cannot keep up with everything that Apple is trying to do with this phone (MMS, tethering). I understand they are concerned with bandwidth capacity, but they have had AMPLE time to prepare for this. I know they will sell plenty of these phones, but they would sell MANY MORE if they would be prepared for these things. I know several people who won't buy simply due to tethering/MMS or both.

I won't get an Iphone until At&T is no longer the exclusive carrier. That was a mistake on Apple's part from the beginning.

No mistake...nobody else would play ball with Apple's terms of sale. If anything Apple oversold it's position.

I don't understand everyone's comments - it makes it sound like the iPhone's limitations past and present are just ATT's fault.

I've been a ATT customer for YEARS. I have phones that have 3G speeds. I have MMS, I have tethering, I just don't have an iPhone! I've been able to tether my phone since my Mitsubishi series phone which is at least 5 years ago. My Siemens S series phones all tethered and so does my Sony Eriicson phones which support the current 3G speeds.

iPhones are not the only thing that runs on ATT. It may be the 'most popular' but not the only thing.

They were iphone's fault. But with the release of 3.0, they are now, 100% ATT's fault.

Tethering IS supported on 3.0, AT&T just won't support it yet.

MMS IS supported on 3.0, AT&T just won't support it yet.

You're absolutely right. It started with Apple but has not shifted to AT&T. It just baffles me that a company had all this time to prepare and they did nothing. AT&T has lost another company (in me) when my contract is up. I don't care whether or not the iPhone is exclusive to AT&T or not.

I don't think they did nothing, but I think that they thought that more people would use the iPhone where there was WiFi and that would relieve/share the burden on the network.

That has not turned out to be the case, most users I know, stay on the ATT network all the time, and seldom change to a WiFi Network, as most of the ISPs have blocked or impeded WiFi deployments in most cities.

Cablevision's WiFi »www.optimum.net/WiFi/Find is one of the largest deployments in any area with no extra cost to CV customers (75% of footprint), but is not fully contiguous and doesn't cover Manhattan the center of CV's footprint since that is TimeWarner territory.

Meanwhile, everyone complains that as an example, Germany is already covered by the higher 3G+ but it's only the size of Montana. If ATT only had to cover Montana, it would be done here, too. Why is it that no one appreciates the scale of things here?
