Re: iPhone...

It seems to me that there is very little about the 3gs that would justify spending $ on an upgrade, especially if you got your phone for free. Slightly faster processor, slightly better camera, and somewhat better battery life don't add up to much, really. The only other major improvement, 7.2 HSPA capability, is probably irrelevant because ATTM has very little 7.2 deployment area, and even where they do they seem to be bottlenecked by backhaul/capacity issues to far below even their current theoretical max of 3.6.

Yea, true, like i said, it's all part of the process when dealing with apple. They have a refresh cycle, roughly a year, sometimes less, and you buy knowing that in a month your ipod could look like a 8 track player.

I'm going to get it at 18 months though, when i'm eligible for a discount/free. Who knows what will be out then. Maybe i'll end up with the phone after the 3Gs.

Well, ATT's network capability, or lack there of on the 7.2 HSPA front is irrelevant to Apple. The phone is not just for ATT, but for carriers world wide, many of which do support 7.2. It is cheaper for apple to make 1 device hardware wise that supports the the max specs of the carriers they are providing to, as long as the max spec is backwards compatible, which it is.

There are probably dozens of other carriers which do not support 7.2, hell some carriers probably are still on Edge somewhere in the world.

And your post is irrelevant to this thread, in which the OP was pondering whether it would be worth it for him to upgrade his 3g for use on ATTM (an assumption I made from his listed location and the general tenor of his comments).

Unless my assumption that he is on ATTM is incorrect, the ability of the device to make use of 7.2 HSPA on ATTM's network certainly would be a factor is his determining whether it would be worth it for him to upgrade.
