mp2 definitely had sub-optimal performance, in a variety of ways. There is a known issue with mp3alpha4 (that can lead to extraneous disconnections), but it can be fixed with a settings change:

»Disconnection issues with Tomato/MLPPP? Try this.

We will of course fix this in the next alpha release (which should be mp3alpha6). It's on hold for Otakuthon-related work, though.
