I don't have 3.5 but when I do upgrade I do NOT want Fx to play any videos be they Flash, Silverlight or open video. With Flash and Silverlight I simply need to not install the plugins. But if this open format for video doesn't need a plugin then I assume a setting in about:config turns it off, correct?

Pretty much, people can create, encode, and upload videos using this format (open source, free to modify), without the need for any additional plugins.

All of these videos should work in Firefox 3.5 without any installed plugins: »openvideo.dailymotion.com
