openout posted : If you're using a 4060, is the usb bus sharing irq with any other device, like video card? If not, are you using a usb hub to connect other usb devices like usb keyboard or mouse? Try to get usb bus to have it's own irq, and try not to share the usb port with slow speed device like keyboard or mouse, maybe that will help you.

DaleB posted : We got the same setup, though I am running a PIII.. I went to speedguide.com and downloaded the patch the sets registry to default, then installed the one for PPPoE for W98SE. I have tried others, like Navas, and RWIN patches here, Dr. TCP, etc....not much difference there.

If I can keep close to 100k for uploads, and my downloads don't slip below about 500k I would be happy.

I have considered going with a different external modem that uses the NIC card, like the Westell, or another. Just a thought.

crazyvillegas posted : Im using a 4060 USB modem,Windows 98, 266 mghtz puter, but instead of enternet I use raspppoe. What could also be slowing you down is if you had a 56k modem connection before and you tweaked the registry for it. Even though one tweaks it for dsl the registry still contains the tweaks for 56k,thus those need to be removed.
--
If you can read this, your not illiterate

DaleB posted : What kind of network hardware/software are YOU running?
I now get 95kb uploads, after 'bleeding' the modem overnight (Unplugging the power and phone line with the computer off).
That's the highest yet. Previously I could not top 55k. But this was early in the morning, so we will see what happens this evening. I am not too optimistic.
dale

DaleB posted : I just had a long conversation with an ASI tech this morning. ( I am in a new San Jose ADSL area)
He called me, following another email request for assistance.
Their response has actually been quite good. (within 24hrs.)

I started off with very low line speeds, rarely over 300kbs.
I now consistently get around 550-600 minimum, and often run 700 to 800kbs. But my uploads are pathetic most of the time.
Here is what he told me:

He said my biggest problem is likely the distance: 15,000 ft. from the CO.
He shows zero packet losses after repeated pings to my modem. He said the losses I see could be caused by my own system; networking, and modem when sending out data.
I told him what I was using (a network system called RASPPPoE and the pacbell USB modem).
He said if I could borrow a regular that ethernet modem that utilized the PC NIC card, and supports PPPoE, it might be worth trying out. He said if I want they will send out the 3060 modem, which is installed internally and has a NIC card incorporated. Some people claim it works better.
He also said they do keep upgrading the system, And ultimately, how busy the network is and how far you are from the CO will be less and less of a factor. However, it will be about 2 to 3 years before they have fully installed fiber optic networking to optimize the system.
They do not guarantee upload speeds, only downloads. He said if I am experiencing packet losses attributed to my system, then that as well as the distance could be affecting my uploads.
