anon posted : I was in your exact situation just a year ago. Was with Optimum before I changed over to Fios. I jumped at the chance because the quality of cablevision is horrible. Sure there are some problems with Fios, but the problems are mostly minor and are being worked on. In my opinion the boxes are pretty much equal, but the services are very different with Cablevision lacking compared to Fios. You say the Cablevision DVR rocks but can you stream to other boxes in your house, can you set recordings and delete them remotely from anywhere in the world with an internet connection? No you cant with cablevision. The VOD does not even compare to Fios either. There will be problems with any service you have, but to continue to pay for Cablevision when the quality is awful and its overpriced makes no sense in my opinion. I heard everything youve heard before I switched, Fios is not perfect but its far better then what you got.

Kramer posted : I think the Verizon DVR is for the most part a piece of garbage, but the remote capabilities make it indispensable. It is fantastic to be able to watch from another room and it is fantastic to be able to set recordings, delete recordings, etc from the Internet. How is it I can delete a recording on my home DVR, from a flea bag hotel half way around the world, but I can't delete one from my set top box (on the same network) in my bedroom? Last night I was watching a great movie (The Secret Life of Bees) being broadcast live and tried to rewind it back a little on the DVR so I could review a scene I had missed. Instead the gauge showed the time moving backward, but the film was moving forward at normal speed and I just missed more of the movie. I am just giving examples, but this DVR has more bugs than that flea bag hotel. I wouldn't want to be without it, but then again, I would almost camp out overnight to get the next generation... hopefully another brand. TIVO sounds nice, but to have two of them would set me back more than I care to think about. I'm stuck with Verizon DVR, which in my opinion is the weakest link of the FIOS service.
