Xeroid5 posted : Just called Cogeco again, still no help whatsoever. Explained all the tests we have done that eliminates the problem being in the house, and that every morning I can do a speedtest.net and speeds are back up to full speed. Again, they repeated the message that you could be billed if a problem was not found. All they could offer this time was that if everyone in your area calls in with slow speeds at night then they might recognise there is a problem.

Does Cogeco have no way to monitor my download speed at night so they can see that there is real problem?

What they will bill you for is if they show up and resolve the issue by correcting a problem -you- caused.

Heh, I remember back in the good ol' days when you could call Maclean-Hunter and get a tech to show up within the hour. Our TV went out one evening. We called up, he showed up shortly afterward, and found that our cable wire had become unplugged from the TV. We never even thought to check it. We had a laugh, offered him a cup of tea and he was on his way. No one was billed or scolded, it was part of customer service back in those days. Today, after you wait 3-5 days for the appointment with a 9AM-5PM window, the tech would end up billing you if he determined the issue was caused by something as silly as that.
--
Give a man a hooker and he'll have fun for a night.
Xeroid5 posted : Well it is 7:00 am and my tests show full speed again. So obviously this problem with dramatic drops in speed ( usually 1 or 2 meg max download ) is a problem during the evenings or at night. It's been going on for a week or so now. During the day it appears to be fine but at night it is almost completely useless.

So, I don't know about your logic, but mine says that this is definitely a problem on the Cogeco side and not on my side, yet when I call in during the evening when the problem is occurring, Cogeco is adamant that there is no problem and continues to threaten service charges if they can't locate the problem.

Jitter, packet loss and upload speed are good during the evenings, but something dramatic is happening with the download speeds.

Now what should I do to rectify the problem?
