[FL] Slow Speeds at Night

I have Cox HSI in Gainesville, FL. I get advertised speeds during the day, but at night and on weekends speeds drop from ~10-15Mb/s to between 0.5 and 1Mb/s. This has only been happening in last month or so, but it seems to be getting worse (slowing earlier and for longer times).

Modem: WebSTAR DPC2100R2
Router: Linksys WRT54GL
Speed Tier: Preferred
All splitters have been bypassed.
Speeds bypassing the router were not significantly different.
The connection is wired.

Speed Tests and power levels during slow times(Different Servers):

Receive Power Level
0.1 dBmV

Transmit Power Level
45.0 dBmV

Speed Tests and Power levels during day:

Receive Power Level
0.1 dBmV
Transmit Power Level
45.0 dBmV

My receive power level used to be around -3.8 to -4.5, but when I removed a splitter, it changed to between 0.0 and 0.2. I don't know what that means though. Speeds were not affected when the splitter was removed.
I have not tweaked.
I tried to get all the info from the sticky into this post, but if you need something else just ask.
Thanks.

well they can range from -15 to 15, but the closer to 0 on the power level the better. Your signals look fine. This is odd your speeds getting crappy at night instead of during the day, when everyones on.

But to me this sounds like someone in your area is hogging all the Bandwidth they can get at night. Maybe someone is running a server on there connection.

If i was you i would call in and complain, and tell them its only happening at night, and someone might look into the 'node' your on, and see whos causing the problem and deal with them as needed.

I'm also in Gainesville, FL and have been having the exact same problem. Last night, from 5pm-12pm, I was getting between 1-2Mbps. However, upon waking up I'm getting 29.9Mbps/3mbps on speedtest websites. Pings to the first hop also spiked to 100+ms. When I ran Pingtest.net, my line quality received a D-, right-now, its receiving an A.

The slow speeds at night have been an ongoing problem for the last couple weeks.

My experiences and tests have also shown a steady pattern of declining quality, i.e. its getting slower for a longer period of the night. In the past, after 9pm everything would speed-up again. Hopefully, maintenance is being done on the plant.

Well i don't consider 5pm till 12am late night that more in the evening to me. That just sounds like to me, the node your on is being overloaded in the evening when everyone is on, and only a node split will help fix this speed issue.

Well, I'm pretty sure its a node issue. Heck, it took three Cox tech visits for the last tech to locate a splitter that was buried in the dirt (rain wrecked HSI). I'm afraid to find out how long it would take to get the node split.

P.S. Anyone have any idea? I'm pretty sure Tubby said his experience took 5-7 months.

no, it was a little over a month from the time that i had contacted support reps on this forum until i had noticed the higher speeds. whether or not the full time was used or not, i couldn't tell. i just occasionally check my speed and noticed i was actually getting powerboost again.

Ah, I just checked your prior posts, Tub, I guess you said several months and my brain just glitched that to 5+. Well, I'll put some calls in tonight. It's definately reasurring that it only took around a month.

considering all of the change control request, capacity balancing on the cmts units, obtaining the gear (or at least getting it from warehousing/inventory), planning a roadmap, cutting the plant, balancing levels, and ensuring that everything is stable - its not bad at all.
i've had network cutovers (say from point-to-point atm-to-frame networks to mpls vpns) that have taken much longer than that.
