channel placementI'm looking at getting the Movie package but notice, unlike HBO and Cinemax, not all channels are in HD.
So, from what I gather, I go (in my guide) to the 800 range to see the HD movie channels, and then have to scroll over to the 300 range to see the SD versions?
Then, if I just want to watch TV and not movies, to go from HD to SD I have to jump over all the SD movie channels in the 300 range?
Why aren't all the premium channels lumped together in a single range (HD and SD) so that you see ALL your Showtime and Starz channels together instead of it being spread out all over the guide? |

That is kinda annoying but there are a few things that can make it easier. One the HD and SD channel are 500 apart. So you just add or subtract 500 to get to the HD or SD channel. Another thing you can do is press the right arrow to open the modes menu and search by HD>Movies or just Movies if you want non HD as well. |

One thing you could do is use one of your Favorites lists and just add all the movie channels to that list. Then whenever you want to watch a movie just switch to that list and you'll see all the movie channels without having to do any scrolling. |

Another thing to do is to not watch any SD channels, only watch the HD. That is whaty I do. Even back in 2001 I would only watch the HD movie channels. Only now there are many more movie channels in HD. |

Scrolling through the IMG works much better if you've setup your favorites list to exclude the SD versions of all your HD channels. There's no reason to watch a program on the SD channel when you can watch it on the HD channel.
I have only a few channels in my guide under 500. |

I do the same thing as Ken, only problem is that when there is a new channel you would not know about it (unless of course you get your info from DSLReports regularly). |

I set up Favorites on the TV central website....it works pretty good because you can scroll back & forth from the 300s to the 800s a LOT faster than in the actual Guide on your TV.
What I did was to put the HD versions first (let's use Encore as an example), which was like 4 channels in the 800s, then I checked what the duplicates were in the 300s and then what the 'SD only' Encore channels are....that ended up being like 8 more SD channels (if I am off on the actual numbers, don't panic, I do not have it open in front of me now).
So now in my Favs I have the Encore HD channels, followed by the Encore SD channels, then Starz HD/SD, then Showtime HD/SD, and on & on.
The really good feature is that the Favorites list stays in the order you put it in....so if you start with an 800 channel, then put a 300 channel after that, it will bring it up exactly like that.
Very handy if you are listing a bunch of channels 'out of order' |

Are the favorites set for the whole household? Do they get erased if the box resets? |

In the settings, select both the "Toggle" & "Flip by favorites" settings, then set up favorites 1 with only the channels you want to "see" in your guide.. after that, Hit the guide button & then left arrow to select "Favorites 1". Now, whenever you hit the guide button, or just toggle thru channels, you will only see "your" channels, the guide won't display duplicates or what you didn't choose, & the ch up/dwn button will skip them as well. You can still direct numeric entry them, if desired. |
