Failed getting my H1N1 vaccine today.

I walked an hour to the improvised flu clinic. On TV they said the wait was 2h. Well, I waited in line outside for two hours and then found out I'd need another 3h outside, 1h in the triage tent and then 1.5h in the building. Adding all that, there was a strong possibility that I might not be able to get the shot before they closed (9pm). I quickly assessed how much strength I had left (I have chronic fatigue syndrome), thinking of the 1h walk back and left the line to go back home. Those impromptu clinics have a limited number of vaccine doses and are supposd to be for people who belong to a number of groups considered most at risk (to which I belong). Well the line was full of healthy people and kids, along with some who already have the flu. No wonder the line was so long. Moreover, only the little kids were allowed to go to the bathroom inside the building.

Anyway, just read that the province will allow family doctors to give the vaccine to their patients (if they so choose), so I'll wait and phone my doc in a couple of weeks.

in a couple of weeks, it will probably be too late...the Flu is in full force right now...by the time us "regular" people can get it, much of the "danger" will be gone...and don't worry, the lineups in London are just as bad, if not worse...if you aren't in line within 40 minutes of them being open, don't bother showing up...2000 people in line, each day.

I'm not in a risk group but my dad (doctor), sister (nurse) and mom (mom) are telling me to go get it.

I'm not going anywhere near these opening rush lines though. Not only do I HATE lines but it's a crowd and like you say idiots with the flu and other colds will be there so I'm probably more likely to get it there than before the lines die down (ha).

Don't forget immunization doesn't kick in for two weeks so the idiot beside you in line with the flu could give it to you and the shot won't help with that.

I do this with anything though, compared to waiting in line now or walking in a few weeks from now it's a no-brainer.

Anyways, cue the nutbags who think the shot will give you autism, cancer and the flu because the whole thing is made up by the WHO and the government.

Not worrying about autism. I take Metamucil twice daily for that.

I'm waiting until next week to get my shot. I'm doing it 100% due to the upcoming baby.

I don't want to get sick.

That said, I'm also realizing that the Flu isn't a death sentence. There's so much more out there that is a death sentence. Some of those things I'm already worrying about.

I just have to turn off the news now. I need to wait for this to get a bit quieter. It's causing me so much mental stress it's unreal. I'm not mentally healthy for this yet.

The farce is, at least in this province, is that front line healthcare workers still have not received their shots. Considering it takes a few days (at least 10) for strong immunity they should have had it at least a week ago, unless it is a plan to ensure your front line troops (family docs, reception staffs and nurses are decimated. If this was a real killer this incompetent approach would be catastrophic.

I ain't getting it. I'm healthy, and this is a scam (unless you're in a high-risk group, maybe).

If I die from it, so be it. But, the chances are slim. Economic stimulus, anyone? For the 'right' people, of course...

This whole charade is a test for when the real thing happens.

The odds of dying while driving to work are greater.

Quite true. My mom who works at Cobourg hospital as a nurse said they received 170 vaccines for over 600 staff. It's funny when you think about it.

That is a mouthful. True. Some also refuse to give or take it.
The gov has told the unions that it will not guarantee their safety. [legal or health]
What would you do if your boss told you that?

No it is not.
Look at it this way.
You go for your shot.
You being the friendly person that you are say to the nurse thank you for seeing me. She says NO problem.
You get your shot.
On the way out you ask the nurse when she got her shot.
"She honestly says" that she believes that the shot is harmful to humans.

Evidently, you don't understand the finer points of logic, nor your own posts. But then again, you watch ball games.

my wife's friend works at the hospital...they were told if they refused the flu shot, and got the flu, they couldn't use paid sick time for time off...i don't know how "legal" that is.

Considering H1N1 flu shot hasn't been tested on humans, I would speculate that would not be legal. I'm not a test bed.

Unless it is specifically written in the language of the collective agreement then no.
Of course during new rounds of negotiation it may be requested by the Province.
Or Dalton may introduce legislation or there may be a mechanism available to the Minister under regulatory prerogative.

A whole 200? Whew! You've relieved my mind!

Seriously though, 200 is fractional compared to the potential distribution scale. It really is frightening.
