wolfhouse posted : Well my FIOS just went up $10, which accounts for about 22%... Unbelievable. That's about 30$ up in 2.5 years.
I am on a month-by-month at 10/2. Can't get into a 2-year plan right now. It is getting a little expensive for what it is. Of course Comcast is the exact same price : surprise surprise...

I currently have the Extreme package nd get all the channels, HBO/Cin/movie package for $30 with 25/15 for the Net. I called mainly to get the higher Internet speed of 35/35. The rep told me that even if I went with the higher package he couldn't add the HBO/Cin/Movie package, but then said there was some way to do it. However, the bottom line was there was no way to add Starz to this package. He then went on about how this setup was dumb on Verizon's part. Does this make sense? Why wouldn't I be able to get a channel I already have, but with a new package? Thanks

Robert

I had the same problem when I called yesterday to get the movies channels lost in the "upgrade" to the Ultimate HD package. Their first reaction was to put me on the Extreme HD package and then add the HBO/Cinemas/Movie package currently running $36. I told her that would drop my internet speeds to 25/25 and she said that the system would not allow her to add HBO, Cinemax, and Starz, only the HBO/Cinemax package (free for 3 mos) to the Ultimate HD tier.

I'm not sure what happened, but she tried to run it through again and it seemed to work. This morning before leaving for work I verified that HBO, Showtime, and Starz/Encore were available. While I did not check my internet speeds to make sure I did not get bumped down to a lower tier, I was able to get Epix, so there is a good chance that I am still in the Ultimate HD plan with 35/35, unless Epix is also included with the National Better middle tier plan.

I saw Starz for $5.99 and HBO/Cinemax at $22.99 before I was updated and locked out of the "My Services" section of the Verizon web site. This would be a cheaper route than paying for the $36 total package that includes unnecessary duplicates, such as Showtime and The Movie Channel already available in my base plan, but it seems to be the only way to get the same channels I was receiving before upgrading to the faster internet speeds.

In a nutshell, trying to keep all of the premium movie channels when stepping up to 35/35 is a problem, and the Verizon support staff does not seem to be able to have the tools to make this happen without doing something funky to manipulate the system.

Edit: Corrected a typo I initially inserted. I actually do have all of the premium movie channels at this time, but I have not checked my speeds to verify whether or not I am still getting 35/35. I will check tonight.

The Verizon Speedtest Analysis page will report the 'SendBufferSize' once the speed test has completed. Any value higher than 8192 bytes (Windows default) means the Send Window has been modified. The Verizon Optimizer will set the Send Window to a value of 130680 bytes or higher depending on the selected speed tier. This Send Window setting is also required for Windows Vista and Windows 7 since these 2 OS's do NOT support TCP Autotuning in the upstream (upload) direction - TCP Autotuning in Vista and 7 is only implemented in the downstream (download) direction....This is why the VZ Optimizer needs to be run in order for Vista and Win7 to get full upstream throughput on the higher FiOS speed tiers...

My bundle price essentially stayed the same (or saved a few bucks, but I got rid of some junk like Stars Play)...I did it over the phone at work. I'm still waiting too although it does show me having the 35/35 tier on FIOS Central now.
