CraniumNY posted : Unfortunately, this is the way the guide has been and will always be. Has it gotten slower? Of course! After all, this is Cablevision's product! They gave us their homegrown UI to provide a better customer experience. How many of you are happy with it?

People have complained about this for years now. They beg for help from Wilt hoping he can wave his magic wand. Well his group is what caused this monstrosity. He is great at helping people 1-on-1 so if you have a problem with a frayed cable...he's the man to ensure it's fixed right. But in terms of these larger systemic issues, he will never even discuss them...let alone get them fixed.

Perhaps if the rumors of new boxes are true then maybe the hardware can help out. However, I really doubt it will address our concerns. And if it does...you can be dead sure that CV will introduce a fresh new pack of bugs that will keep you on your toes for years to come.

RDionysus posted : Yeah, count me in here. I have 3 4250HD's, and trying to use the guide is just ridiculous. It used to be I could bring up the guide, and scroll around briskly by holding down one of the arrow keys and after a second or two it would accelerate nicely up or down. Now, to move from one screen to the next is like glue, and scrolling through the guide moves at something like 1 channel per second. Furthermore, half the time I try to bring up program descriptions via the 'info' button, it shows 'no data'. I dread forcing the program data refresh by bringing up the guide, because almost every time I do that it states the usual, "downloading program data, please wait" and then goes into a ludicrously long no-mans-land while blanking out the sound and picture of whatever I'm watching. Then, to make matters worse, even after the new guide is populated, I have to sit through another mini-download if I want to bring up description data for programs in the list (why can't it pre-populate the descriptions during the original download?)

What kind of nonsense is this in 2010? I'm not asking for a lot here, interactive guides are not cutting edge-- this is basic functionality. They're hyping all this new stuff with the "C" button, yet the freakin' basic UI experience is balls. My mother has Time Warner in Manhattan, and whatever other problems they might have, their guide system is brisk and responsive.

I don't know what a complaint call will do for me; I already checked my signals in the tech-menus, and everything appears to be within spec....
--
Heathen, n: A benighted creature who has the folly to worship something that he can see and feel.
-Ambrose Bierce

steevo posted : Yea its not the splitter. Ive checked at some friends houses and its the same. Seems there must have been a software update that changed something because its really lame.
Mind you, its always been somewhat lame, but at least you could use it. Now it seems its very slow to respond to inputs from the remote.
FWIW, the DVR menu system is snappy as ever but the Program guide is now useless other than to slowly look up and down.... If you are trying to cruise the guide looking to set up recordings, for example, its completely unusable because of the slow response.
--
steevo
J-E-T-S JETS! JETS!!
anon posted : Ever since the beginning of this month, about when they dropped Food Network I've noticed the box has been terribly slow. Sometimes my guide doesn't even load and just sits there saying "loading" with the IO logo, but even if I totally reboot my box (which also takes FOREVER), the guide is slower than it ever was and almost painful to use at times.

Using FiOS at my parents' over the holidays totally spoiled me and only makes the Cablevision boxes and software look even more tired and outdated.

I just don't know why suddenly the boxes are responding slowly.

SteveCVTech posted : You probably have a bad splitter or loose connection at the beginning of your line or there is loose connection at the ground block or at the pole(lock box if your in a building). If you have a splitter with unused legs(ex 3-way when you only need 2-way) replace it. Stay away from 99 cent store parts.
