I just realized that I posted this in the wrong forum. I reposted this today in "Hardware Chat". Thanks!

A question for all the gurus out there: which is better... the Zyxel 642M ADSL bridge or the USB SpeedStream 4060 ADSL modem??

Background: Right now, I have the USB SpeedStream 4060 ADSL modem and am running Windows ME on the desktop. I use EnterNet 300 v1.40. After many problems, I finally got it to work right* and I also got some good info from the Tweaks forum.

New Issue: My ISP is trying to convince me to switch to the Zyxel 642M ADSL bridge. So far, I haven't heard anything that would convince me to spend the money.

So, which is better? Convince me!

* By "work right", I mean better than when I first installed the USB modem but not better than when I didn't have the modem. My PC cannot shutdown unless I use hibernate mode and sometimes has problems accessing the Internet. That is, it can see my ISP but won't let me surf or play games online.

Re: Zyxel 642M ADSL bridge or USB SpeedStream 4060??

Well first of all who is your ISP? If the modem you have now is working just fine, then why switch?? If they were to guarantee you faster speeds or something with that modem, then it might be worth it otherwise there cant be anything that great about it. If you want to know anything about it you can go to their website www.zyxel.com.

Peace

my ISP and other stuff

I'm using a local ISP that's affiliated with Verizon. Basically, it's Verizon's ADSL service but all my software, tech support issues, and charges are handled by my local ISP.

Btw, I checked Zyxel's web site and read up on their Prestige 642 series. To be honest, it's a bunch of gibberish to me. I still don't understand how the Zyxel Prestige 642M bridge is better than the USB SpeedStream 4060 ADSL modem that I have.
