Re: Watch with Altimeter, Barometer, Thermometer - use for what?

said by circade:

Wrist watches seem almost antiquated next to smart phones that can do everything. If you never leave city limits, wearing a watch is almost redundant in terms of functionality. In the wilderness away from cell and wifi coverage, a barometric graph is like having a weather forcaster next to you.
There are many reasons for wearing a wristwatch. Not everything has to be utilitarian all the time.

Yes, there are reasons to wear a watch, like for fashion or whatnot. I wear a G-shock Riseman everyday. When I run daily or in marathons, I wear a G-Shock 5600. But in terms of functionality, a cell phone can do whatever a watch can do. I know some people who don't wear watches because they have a cell phone.

I realize that. But a lot of people on DSLR have this notion that unless something is for utilitarian purposes, there's no reason to have it.

I wear a watch mostly for fashion but for utlity as well. Not a Rolex, since I'm not a very big guy and my wrists looked dwarfed by them, but similar. I carry a Blackberry with a clock, and us it as such every few years when my watch is at the jewellers, but I prefer the watch.

Personally, I find a wristwatch to be much more convenient than a cell phone for checking the time. But, yes, a watch is a much nicer personal accessory, too.
