VZ Manager update issuesI figured I would let everyone know of an issue I found, and then found a fix for. My UM190 was prompting me to update, and as usual, did not have the time to do it. But when I did do it, my speeds were nearly 1/4 of their usual. I tried to switch to HDR(EVDO) only, but then the 1x and the EVDO signals all went completely away. Cant say I was not confused. Finally, I found a fix, and tried it with a few other UM190's, and it did them all. I ended up having to activate the device twice. I went from 160k, to 1.9 MB. Not sure why I had to do it, but I did, and it worked. If it helps anyone, I run a "modified" version of Vista Ultimate, 64 bit. |

I also did the update last night and now I can't go into HDR mode. It defaults back to Global. Tried the Activation several times but still doesn't work.
Any other suggestions?
I'm running ver 7.2.1.2 on Windows 7, 32. |

I'm running ver 7.2.1.2 on Windows 7, 32. I have noticed with the new update there are some interesting changes, and some new buttons to push. When this thing was pissing me off the other night, I was tempted to download it again, and reinstall it, not opting for the update. Let me get some coffee in me this morning, and I will hop on the phone with the developers of the manager. They ought to know something |

This is exactly what happened to me after I did the update (I have the UM175). I have had terrible speeds ever since and no signal both EVDO and 1x day before yesterday. I did reactivate once and then a Millenicom tech had me to manually activate by changing some numbers in settings but it didn't help. Finally my signal did come back but my speeds on download do not get over .40 now even very early in the mornings when the tower is not as busy whereas before I was getting 1.3 - 1.7 download speed.
Am I reactivating correctly by just selecting it under "options"? Also, do I disconnect first or is it ok to run activation while connected? |

Very nice speaking with you Devorah, hope this helps. I will first explain all the trouble shooting steps taken. First, I took a new device out of the package, and recreated the issue. I went from a 2.29MB DL on my speed test, to a 460KB, just by updating the thing. Then I called in. WE played with it a bit, nothing changed. We then uninstalled/restarted and reinstalled, directly from vzam.net. Chose to cancel the update, and connected(-75 EVDO, and -75xRTT). Two speed tests ran, one with the usual 2.2MB, and the second with 1.99MB. I then went back to the manager, and did the update. Fist thing noticed, was my signals. -75 EVDO, but 1xRTT service unavailable. Speed tests were as follows. Test 1, 460kbps DL, 409kbps UL. Test 2, 490kbps DL, 442kbps UL. Now that sucks. The gentleman I spoke to seemed to act like this was not the first report of this. So, after other info was taken, and a few more troubleshooting steps, I received a ticket number, and will post the results when they come in. As for our current issues, this is what I can suggest. go to » www.vzam.net and click on consumer downloads on the left. Answer the questions, and then when prompted for the phone number, type 555-555-5555. download the software, and hit save. (I would recommend to the desktop, easier to find that way) Then uninstall the VZ access manager, as well as the Pantech USB modem V2 from your add/remove programs. Restart computer, and then reinstall the manager, but do not update the firmware when prompted to do so. Hopefully, we have been able to spur an actual fix for the issue, but at least for now, we know there is one, and also know how to make it work again. |

Thats weird, on their site there is a chart that will show the UM175 but on the drop down download selector it isnt listed. I installed the new one on my laptop, which the modem had never been connected to and all works fine. Tried to update my existing manager on my desktop and it crashed. Seems you need a clean slate to start with for it to work properly. |

For the UM175, I would recommend getting it from » millenicom.com/support.html because I noticed as well, the UM175 was missing. I will call in a bit to get to the bottom of that one. |

Can I get the download from here: » www.vzam.net/download/do ··· ctid=752If for some reason I have a problem, can I just uninstall everything again and use the installation cd that came with my modem when I received it? Why I ask is because the download from Millenicom is going to take over 1 hour, actually it is now saying 2 hours...I guess because my speed is really poor right now until I get this fixed. |

If you still have the CD from Millenicom, use it. Just ensure you tell it not to update. |

Jarod, I had this same scenerio back a while ago when I did an update. Remember, we troubleshooted several things, and my main complaint at that time was my speeds went to crap after I did an activation/prl update. So, I sent back the modem, and you sent me another one. the new one was back to normal. SINCE THEN, I have *NEVER* activated/updated the modem I have not, its been at a consistent speed ever since. So, what about an update makes our modems speeds go to crap? Sounds exactly the same issue(s) I went thru. said by Jarod2:Very nice speaking with you Devorah, hope this helps. Not sure, but that is because I did not make it But, I would say is is in the PRL update. As I said, I experimented with it for a bit before I called Big Brother, and the total lack of 1xRTT coverage after the update really explained a lot to me. Not only that, but the update also caused the modem to go to Global access in the settings, not automatic. I will call tomorrow to see if my ticket has had any progress or resolution, but I would assume it is floating through various channels of bureaucracy right now. |

Ok, got everything reinstalled and my speed is better. I actually got two udate messages, one when I connected the usb modem and one when I opened the VZAcess Manager - I didn't update either. I don't know much about "ping" but according to the ping test I just did after doing the speed test, I got a B score, which I think is ok, right? Jarod I really appreciated your help with all this. |

After talking to you on the phone, I would say your results are good for your location and situation. Ping times on these MBB devices vary, the best I have had myself was a 81, and have never seen it since, but usually run in the low to mid 100's. If you look at the other topic, post UM175 speeds, your ping is along with most. I would try the shorter USB cable, and if you really want to get the most out of the connection, get with Jim, I still refer people to him for anything about amplifiers/ antennas. |

I reloaded the Manager and didn't do the upgrade and I'm now able to set it in the HDR mode but I'm still getting a 1x signal. I think before I did this update that whenever I was in HDR mode, I would only get a EV signal.
Still, my DL is bad (~340k). Any other suggestions?
Thanks Shawn |

The only thing I could suggest is for you to try to run a reactivation, this should refresh your network settings, and should set it to automatic by default. |

I thought mine was going to be ok after reinstalling but my speed is down again and the ping is really high. Usually when I have bad download speed at least my upload speed has always been pretty good, until the last few days. I have tried reactivating 2 times and it doesn't help. My signal is -75, doesn't make a difference. |

perhaps the "upgrade'" killed the signal. In that case I would uninstall VZACESS from the control panel and reload it from the Millenicom CD. |

Some people have received "degraded speeds"
(1) by upgrading to a newer version of VZAM
(2) by doing an "activation" in VZAM
After I did an "activation" to get an update for the modem, I received some PRL update and MDN download.....
This is when my speeds went downhill.
Millenicom replaced the modem, and i have never "ACTIVATED" my device again for any updates.
Every so often, it tells me I need to "activate" to update coverage information (PRL)... I just click it off.
Every since I got the new modem. everything has been running goog. |

Interesting thread. I've been searching for a way to do updates to my modem via Linux, but after reading this thread I'm thinking I should leave well enough alone, and don't try to fix it if it ain't broke. |

Well.... I am trying a few other things, and have enlisted some of the most knowledgable people in the field, and we are determined, lol. I know my issue was fixed with what I did, and actually recreated it with 3 devices. So, hang in there, and I will have more info tomorrow. |

You DO have to disconnect first in order to run the activation. |
