CORRECTION: It turns out your uncle probably can use his dsl if you register for him on your dial up. Once you register the account and get his new id and password just enter them in his login and he should be off.
---------------
You can register your uncle on any computer that has a connection to the internet but that probably won't allow him to connect to the internet for dsl.
I have the same problem. The modem reports a sync but I cannot connect anywhere and Enternet says "Could not find gateway" but goes ahead and loads up. So I get an icon in the system tray showing those two little green monitors except the one representing my isps server is grayish yellow. The isp was supposed to connect me on the 9th but I'm still left hanging.
Yesterday I registered my account by using a dial up connection and that gave me an email box (which I can use when I get connected) and an additional dialup account and I had to agree to the contract. Called this morning and they gave me a problem ticket number. A technician will call me either today or tomorrow. My problem is that I don't understand why they need a technician to call me when the problem is on their end. -- - Quayle stuffed with potatoe -- - Quayle stuffed with potatoe [text was edited by author 2000-12-10 22:40:45] |

Well what he did was register under his Prodigy Dial up acct. and it worked fine. he connected, but he's not that skilled at computers and doesn't know what he's talking about so i dont trust him in the following...
He has prodigy dialup, he has to have it for 3 year to get his rebate on his computer, he also had AOL (he signed up for the free hours and never got around to terminating the acct, so he was paying 41$ a month for 2 dial up acct's. SO i told him to go ahead and cancel AOL and Order DSL through Prodigy because it doesn' make sense to be paying 40$ a month for 56k when you can get "upto 1.5mbps" right?
OK so he canceled his AOL (I did it for him) and I went ahead and ordered the Prodigy DSL. they told me that it would just be an additional 20$ to the 19.99 that he was already paying (total 40$) so he agreed, anmd i ordered it for him, they were suppose to send an email and never did. well he called Prodigy back and asked them what was going on and they said that they never placed an order for that number, so he went ahead and ordered it again.
He called a couple weeks later to see what was going on and they told him that he had to call Pacbell because they now had his order (they also told me this when i called) So He told me that he called pacbell and told them that he wanted DSL with Prodigy as an ISP. According to what he said, pacbell told him that they wold charger him 19.99/month and pacbell would charge him 19.99 (40$) so he agreed. Now when he finally gets his DSL modem I goto his house and install it and the instructions say that you need to goto that secure.pacbell.net.... etc. site and register. So he did it by his prodigy Dial up account and now has DSL working.
Finally i get to the point...
He connects through Enternet 300 Software just like me (I have pacbell DSL with PBI) He is not required to sign on under prodigy at all. Does this mean that he messed up and ordered Pacbell dsl and will now get billed 40$ from Pacbell and 19.99 from prodigy?
whats the process for getting DSL with Prodigy? how do you sign on to prodigy DSL, because i think he's going to get billed 60$
I realize that this is a long post and sorry to bore you with it but it just didn't seem right to me that he signs up with Prodigy and ends up logging on with Enternet300 software and a registered Pacbell username (that he registered at the secure.pacbell.net/dyndsl site)
well thanks again! |
