pbeno- the mac you need will be on a sticker on the back or bottom of your modem, it is labelled "HFC MAC"

So, I do think you have the right MAC. LOOK on the cable MODEM. There should be a sticker on the back/bottom; also, it usually on the box that he MODEM came in.

The firmware isnt sent to you, it is installed directly by Engineer88... Just post your MAC number here and he will update you (it is on a sticker on the back or bottom of your modem and it says HFC MAC... make sure you leave the modem on...

You are correct brooklyn. The modem is a separate piece of equipment and is not related to anything you do on the computer.
