Wireless problems again.

First off, thanks to all who help (or try to help) with all the problems. It is really appreciated

I've had wireless for over two years where I live now. Never had any real problems. I have Boost. Good speeds down and up ... could get usually around 20/5 most of the time (with wireless). Used it on XBox Live constantly without a hitch.

Last router seemed to crap the bed. I would just keep loosing my connection to it. It would drop and I wouldn't be able to reconnect for a while and many times would have to power down/up the router. Nothing had changed (settings wise), it just stopped being reliable. I got a new router (Netgear WNR2000) and have been having trouble with this too.

I originally thought changing the channel on the wifi worked (things seemed okay for a while) ... but using it for XBox Live, I get lag like I've never seen before. Web pages have started to hang again too.

speedtest.net is all over the place. Up is usually on par, but down goes from 3Mbps to 22Mbps (seconds apart). At pingtest.net, I can get A's and then drop to D. Sometimes these sites hang too during a test or before a test starts and I get a latency error or something.

I don't have these problems when wired. The modem seems to be okay, I have these stats:

Name
WebSTAR DPX2203

Hardware Version
v2.1

Software Version
v2.0.2r1162-090814

Receive Power Level
3.9 dBmV

Transmit Power Level
46.9 dBmV

Cable Modem Status
Operational

-------------------------------------

I went to a command window and typed: "ping -t google.com"

I'll get a reply of between 10-50ms for 20 results in a row, then it will jump to 3000+ms for three in a row, then back down to 10-50ms for 30 in a row, then some will time out. Then it will hang in the 100+ms range for a while. So it's mainly in a good ms range, then just hits these peaks of 100+ms to 3000+ms.

All computers have current updates (all Win7). The router has its latest firmware. Ran the tweak test here. Things were fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do? It's so frustrating because everything should be working fine, but just refuses to.

Thanks for the help.

It sounds to me like you have interference? Even though you have changed channels and that seemed to work for a day or two, it may be something else? Do you live in an area with a lot of other people around, or are you in a rural area?

Thanks for the reply. I am guessing it was just another bunk router. I've since replaced the router again and this one seems to work no problems. Thanks for the help.
