You don't have any idea what his situation is. His MIL may live next door and he sees her every day and he just wants to do his own thing instead of doing "nothing" going out with his MIL.
True, but then again you don't either. I just recently lost my Dad and can say that spending time as much time with family is very important as you never know when they won't be around.
