7004ABR semi-shutdown?

after a long computer idel time (say a nite/sleeping time), the 7004 seems to 'shut down' on creating any new incoming or outgoing connections. But the thing is, ALL current connections (ICQ, FTP) will still be functional.
when i wake up in the morning, i can't even access the router's IP for a software reset. i hafta unplug the SMC's power for about 30 sec and voila... works again. I was just wondering if there was any other way to do it, or make it stay up longer?

My boot code is 1.1
runtime code is 1.4.0.001

Thanks a lot

the same thing is happening to me everyday, too! I use the RESET button on the front side to re-activate it.

SMC knows this problem for a long time, but they haven't released a firmware to fix it. For what I know, only PPPoE connections are affected where the "Auto re-connect" option is enabled.

Hello, nrgsystems,
"fortunately" I got my 7004ABR from you, with the original FW 1.00 installed. It seemed to work quite stably at the begin, and I had never RESET it.
After I upgraded it to FW 1.40.018, the "shutdown"-problem began to appear and continues. I have to reset it at least one time a day now.
I am just wondering whether it is possible to restore (downgrade) the original firmware version 1.00.
Thanks i.a.

Send me a mail to our info-address and I will send you the 1.00 firmware in return. Don't forget to restore the configuration data to the factory defaults after the firmware downgrade.

Bump...... I am experiencing the same problem with the latest software/firmware. Nice to see that I am not alone.

I don't seem to have that problem, under PPPoE I have;
Maximum Idle Time 36000 (seconds) + Auto-reconnect Checked
Runtime: V1.40.018 Boot: V1.00 Hardware Version: 01

"Maximum Idle Time" isn't used as long as "Auto-reconnect" is enabled (check the built-in online help).

Do you have disconnects due to inactivity? If not then you're a lucky winner else I would like to know something more about your router configuration.

To clarify, I intended to say that I do not need to restart the router, nor do I have trouble accessing it. I leave the router up, tend to shut down the PC at night, and it works fine. If it is dropping the connection it is also properly reconnecting when I need it. (granted my settings are illogical)

Same problem here. Using PPPoE, and everything is fine for a day or so. Then I can't even ping the router. The switch still seems to function because I can reach other network nodes, just not the router. It won't lease new IPs through DHCP, I have to unplug or hardware reset.

Part 750.5702
Runtime Code Version: V1.40.018
Boot Code Version: V1.00
Hardware Version: 01
Serial Num: Starts with a C

Worked fine for the first few weeks, that was also before I updated the firmware. Since then I've updated to 1.40.004 and 1.40.018 and both have been problematic.

It doesn't surprise me that you won't see this problem if you shut down your PC every night. I see this exact same problem weekly and discover it after my computer hasn't been used for awhile (but while active downloading processed are going on) so mostly I found out about it in the mornings.

Did you try a downgrade to V1.00 including a reset of the settings to factory defaults before you configure it?
