Can I undo a switch from MOCA -> Ethernet

I'm considering switching from MOCA to ethernet. I need to think through which option to go with as I do have TV and DVRs to support.

However, I want a back-out plan to switch back.

After I ran my Cat 5 from the ONT to my AT, I noticed a sticky clear glob in my ONT's ethernet port. No idea how it got there or what it was. I cleared it out the best I could, but see that I may have inadvertently moved pin 6 during the cleaning process.

I know I can call the FSC or post in the direct forum to get the connection switched to ethernet, but can I also ask them to switch back if it turns out that pin is broken and the cat 5 segment faulty? Clearly I'd have to call them as my network would be out of commission. Ideally, I'd get them on the phone and verify the connection comes up (port on AT lights up, ping sites, etc.) and then end the call.

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Greg

You should be able to get it switched while on the phone, but you may get a CSR who doesn't understand the request and thinks you're asking for a wiring job that requires a truck roll. Once switched, you can get it switched back, but obviously if you go through vzdirect, it won't be in real-time.

I've heard the clear glob is like silicone grease which should not affect the connection. If pin 6 is bent but still parallel to the other pins, it should not matter as minor misalignments are corrected when the RJ-45 is inserted.

Consider connecting the ONT ethernet to a device which shows a LINK light. I believe most LINK status lights show a viable connection when both active pairs are continuous. However, if the ONT disables the ethernet port so it's completely dead, you may not get a status indication until it's properly enabled. In other words, a positive LINK status shows good to go, while a negative status doesn't necessarily mean the port is glitched.

Like birdfeeder said, the clear glob is meant to be in the port. It keeps the pins and plug from corroding.
