Re: WE NEED A NEW GROUP: INSIGHTBB!! WOOHOO! i think..From reading the explanation on the main transition page, I think you are supposed to install the Configurator now, and then it will automatically reconfigure your PC when you are connected to their new network - it checks what network you are on at installation and each time you reboot and when you are on their network, it updates your network and application settings. If you don't install it, you won't get automatically reconfigured. So you need to download and install it between the 9th and 16th but it should be installed by the 16th when they start network cutover. [text was edited by author 2002-02-08 23:58:22] |

Well actually you don't need the software at all if you don't want to use it. But here is the page with the instructions for using the software = » newuser.insightbb.com/up ··· ate.html & for doing it manual = » newuser.insightbb.com/ma ··· ual.htmlIf using the software take there warning into account = "Note: There may be situations when the Configurator won't be able to determine for sure whether you have changed to the new network. In this case, the Configurator may ask you to confirm that you are being converted to the new network. You must only agree to this if you have confirmed that the transition to InsightBB.com is occurring in your area. If you allow the Configurator to update your settings before your connection has been transitioned to the new network, you will lose service until the transition occurs. In order to confirm whether transition is occurring in your area, please refer to the Insight letter sent to your @Home e-mail account and U.S. Mail address, or contact your local Insight Customer Care." |

Just read this here = » www.insight-com.com/net/ ··· faq.html"I have downloaded the software. Should I run it as well? The software should only be run on or after your transition date. Prior to your transition, you should just download the software to your desktop so that it will recognize the new network once you are transitioned. After the network transition, running the Configurator software will then guide you through completion of the installation & configuration process." |

I called Insight today and the tech told me that I needed the configurator software even though I wanted to set up manually. He said the software provisions the modem(?). Does this sound right? I also wanted to know about my computers name and the workgroup assignment. Currently the computer name starts with C and then some numbers and the workgroup is @home. No where on the Insightbb site does it tell you to change the workgroup (to insightbb I would assume). Can anyone shed any light? Thanks... Barry |

Well according to this link that person was wrong = » newuser.insightbb.com/ma ··· ual.html» newuser.insightbb.com/ma ··· ted.html» www.insight-com.com/net/ ··· faq.htmlThis thread has info on the computer name issue = » Latest from InsightBB.comNetwork Settings: Make sure DHCP is turned on. DHCP allows your computer to automatically request network settings from the network. With this setting enabled, there is no need to directly set any other TCP/IP settings. You must also make sure that you have no DNS server addresses, Gateway addresses or domain names manually set. Are you sure you spoke with an actual technician? Or was it just a customer service rep? |

While I was at work the other day, my wife some how started the configurator. She said she was able to access the internet but wasn't able to get to our e-mail. When I got home I did some checking and the only thing that changed , as far as I can tell was the server for our e-mail. It went from mail.bgreen1.ky.home.com to mail.insightbb.com. I changed the server name back to the @home mail server and everything seems to working right now. Does this make ny sense to anyone? I didn't think I would be able to access the internet through @home after initiating the configurator. And another thing will I have to initiate the configurator again after the 17th? Any help will be appreciated. |

This makes sense...if it asked her whether to run it because it couldn't tell whether the transition had happened or not, I'm guessing she said "yes".
Still, you might want to run the original program that you downloaded again, so that it keeps checking, because it now won't do anything automatically when the switch occurs. |
