Any ideas?????Ok, been having problems still. What is happening lately is I will lose my connection, in a game, browsing and so on. When I look up the cable light on the modem is out. After a few minutes it starts flashing and comes back on. Seems like I have had one problem after another lately, high pings to my first hop, disconnections and on and on. Any ideas on what could be causing my light to go out? And btw, just replaced the modem this week to see if that was the problem, its a toshiba 2000
Thanks |

If your modem light goes out this is a problem from the head end in other words your provider. I would look at your signal level and have your provider check out your line. as a first guess i would suspect a bad signal level. the level is either to low or to high. the other more common problem is your provider is having problems with it's network. In any case it is with your provider and it is there issue to resolve. |

Need more info...how are you connected? USB to cable modem or with an ethernet card to cable modem. What you describe can also happen when USB drivers flake out.

call customer service and ask for them to check out your line...mention nothing about gaming (mention this may flag you : me being paranoid but possible in the fabulous world or scripted level one customer support)..simply state your cable light goes out intermittantly... Most Tech support people hate gamers....'
Its very sad and annoying.......
I myself am a gamer and get the "youre just a winy gamer" atititude from Tech support if you mention gaming to them. |

I know what you mean Acid Death. But I feel like it's us gamers who really keep an eye on the connection. I had one tech support dood tell me that a 300 ping was ok. I have had nothing but trouble for about a month now. High pings to my first hop, pl when i run ping plotter and so on. But anymore I can't even play one game without getting the damn phone jack symbol, its really getting to the point where i'm ready to dump it and try dsl. |

get ping plotter and show them your packet loss and repeated disconnects. they won't do anything about it but the ping plots might be helpful in obtaining a refund once you finally get fed up and drop rr. |

Here's a good reason to NOT have a Toshiba modem! If you had a Motorola, you could check your signal levels at the modem's web page. I had a Toshiba and couldn't get them to do diddlysquat. My light would go out, etc. I turned it in after a month of problems and insisted on the Motorola Surfboard 4100. Hooked it up and aha! Terrible signal to noise ratio! Called the cable company and read out the stats and someone came out the next day to adjust the signal strength. I had tried repeatedly when I had the Toshiba to get someone to come out but I didn't have any proof of the problem. You might try Robin Walker's docsdiag » homepage.ntlworld.com/ro ··· ocsdiag/The high pings to your first hop is a problem with the headend. Could be noise on the drop line to your house, on the street or an oversold node, etc. |

Is the cable modem off the first splitter coming into the house. Make sure it is a two way splitter, with a loss of -3.5 dbs. Which light on the modem flashes when you lose connectivity.. |

Can anybody provide info on this feature? Applies to all Motorola cable modems? URL? Thanks |

The page is for the Surfboards. I don't know if there is a web page for the earlier Cybersurfer. » 192.168.100.1/ |

You sure it was a level 2 tech? I only ask because I'm at Tier 2 (for your area even) and we don't have access to any of that information. |
