I was a bit disappointed that it didn't have VR - so the major difference between the new and old is the newer has AF-S and about $400 more (retail)

With the announcement of the refreshed version of the 85mm, I bet you can find a good deal on the older version which I would consider down the road when I have a body to put it on :0

The 24-120mm VR f/4 sounds nice but for the cost - it's not as useful for me on a DX sensor. This lens + the D700 would be nice

For most folks who find this range appealing should consider the cheaper 16-85mm VR.

Yeah, I already have the D700, so i've been lusting over that lens for quite some time.
