For most folks who find this range appealing should consider the cheaper 16-85mm VR.

Granted the resolution can still be improved when comparing to a 2k or 4k film scan, but most video dslr's color accuracy and dynamic range are good enough to let you cut between film footage and dslr footage without being that noticeable.

None the less it is 5.5 MB/s not 5.5 Mb/s and even at 5.5MB/s that is still a puny data rate for quality HDV.

On page 149 it says "When shooting movies, use a large-capacity card having a read/write speed of at least 8 MB/sec.

I believe you got the upper and lower case mixed up, according to the number in the manual
1MB (MegaByte) = 8Mb (Megabits)
8MB/s = 40Mbps

If it was 5Mbps then it would be only be 0.625MB/s, or 625KBps.
