Would this work?

Hi,

Would this antenna

send a good signal over a distance of about 100-150 metres through foliage in a tropical rainforest?

Sorry, but maybe you should consider running a cable or renting a bulldozer. I've never been in a tropical rainforest myself, but I'm imagining something a little denser than your standard leafy obstruction.

Wireless through leaves, while not impossible, can be an exercise in frustration. If you have no alternative and don't mind taking a risk, then get yourself the highest gain antennas and radios you can find. The Ubiquiti Rocket dish is the highest combo that I know of.

a small trenching digger for pipes can quickly implant bury-able cat5 cable. 3 inch slit.

Roll of direct burial CAT5 = $160
Payment for local labor = case of beer or BBQ lunch

Pair of 28 dBi grids and radios and disappointing results = $350

Hmmmm...hard choice.

I was planning to bury a cable, as suggested before on this forum, and just add an extra wireless router at the other end of the resort but we get lots of thunderstorms and others warned me that lightning would be an issue and getting reliable surge protectors or whatever in this country is virtually impossible and the idea of taking something back if it breaks is laughable.

Would it be feasible to string the Cat5 cable through the trees as the electricity cables are? Would they still suffer the same problems from lightning in the trees as they would buried in the ground?

Sorry if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about but that's probably because I don't.
