Hehe, yeah it looks pretty grim eh? That screenshot was taken with the modem looking out a north window with three insulated interior walls and a 8" bricked exterior wall between me and the towers. When I put the modem in the Cradlepoint MBR1000 in a south window I get Signal Strength % of up to 50 and have seen Signal Strength dBm as good as -79. I think that's comparing apples to oranges but I can't figure out how to make the VZ Field Test to read the modem when it's in the Cradlepoint.
I know I need an antenna to get good performance but I think it can be done. Yesterday I tested it at another place and the Mobilink Connection Log showed me a max throughput of almost 2700 kbps with a signal of around -100. If I can get close to that at home, I'll be a happy camper. Best I've seen so far with the modem looking out the wrong window was around 1300 kbps. That happened once.
