RG-6U and/or CAT-5e

I've read here that either RG-6U or CAT-5e can be used for AT&T U-verse TV. Say I need it for two TVs. Can you use CAT-5e for one and the RG-6U for the other or the one that is common to both locations?

I have a difficult run of RG-6U to one location that was done some years ago. The other I did a few weeks ago after finding out that either can be used so, I ran both.

Quick answer, yes as long as the coax is in good shape and connectors are compressed and not crimped (prem tech could change them).

But if you could go cat5e on the coax run, I'd do it as it is the preferred method for Uverse connection, properly installed coax is acceptable.

I just ran the cable, no connectors on any of it.

Do they test exsisting cable first? If so, how and with what?

We check existing wires with our JDSU (meter), change all coax ends to compression fittings, and run our own cat5 or coax if necessary. Kudos to you for prewiring . Your tech will be happy. You can have some TVs on coax, and others on Cat5/6, the RG (router gateway) won't mind.

Before the tech gets happy, they'll get sick when they see all my basement ceiling tile is the old stapled stuff!

You'd had to be holding a gun to get me to go into my attic space in the summer time.

No HDTV but I have a VCR/DVD player with the upstairs TV. I'm guessing for the best picture quality the S-Video input is perfered which the DVD player is using now. I'll probably have to get a S-Video switch to use the DVD player later, correct?

Not sure about this as you can't find the manual for the RG used now, only a older model. Maybe there's no difference there either.

Here's the only one available:

»fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/o ··· _pdf=pdf

Only all the MDC pages are from the old 5.1 firmware version, no upgraded manual available.;)

Yeah, I've seen that one but it mentions using it with two wire DSL which U-Verse doesn't allow. Sometimes it says 3800 and sometimes 3700, so maybe it's just a edited version.
