His parents are assholes because they want him to pay for his own gaming? Great parent you must be.

Perhaps their money goes to feeding, housing, caring for this kid and his family?? You know, required items to live.

I know when my kids get older they'll be paying for things like WoW; that is, unnecessary items. Sure, I might assist them, but they need to learn what's important and what's not. They need to learn responsibility and earn money for things they want.

We're just assuming they're doing it to be good parents, what if they really are asshats?

How do we know they aren't using that money on box loads of twinkies or investing in Arizona swamp creation? Let's not be to quick to pass out possitive judgement here (less the thread die).
Who are we to assume such things, it's not fair and i'll not allow it.

But since we're on the subject.

What are they REALLY doing with the money?
Possibilities:
Remodeling the RV
Both parents already play WOW when he goes to sleep and they don't want their card associated with his account.

I mean really the possibilities are endless...ENDLESS

in regards to teaching kids about money:
I lend my son gold in the game but I make him pay it back before I will loan him more. I don't charge interest but he either has to pay me back in gold or I will accept payment in another form like special chores or such around the house.

Of course since he doesn't like to farm for money, it can take a while to get him to pay it back. Maybe in the future, I will impose a time limit for repayment or I will 'repo' his toon and sell items off.

I made my son sit and watch me while I played the AH on his toon and earned about five hundred gold in an hour. Then I told him if he wanted more money, he just saw how it was done.

You should have played the AH on YOUR toon. Made 500g yourself and just give him 250 g as seed money.
