Re: Intel icore7 pricing....confused

Agreed- - saw last night that the most powerful CPU is a 980X @ 4.778 GHz according to 3Dmark.

How far do you think a 920 could go on liquid or phase? You don't hear too much of 920s going beyond 3.8-4.0 on air. (The 875K is stable at 4.1 on air, according to a couple reviews).
I've never seen a 920 that can't hit 4.0 easily on air.....

I bought my Core i7 920 the day that Bloomfield first went on sale here in the USA. The early stepping chips often could not hit higher then about ~3.8GHz.

I think they were released in Nov'08, and I didn't get mine until March'09.

Well that was sort of what I was trying to say before. Almost 2 yrs and many people are still building what are basically the same systems with nearly the same platform performance levels, OC or no OC. With the 950 hitting the same MSRP of the 930 and older 920 we now start to see some movement. With any luck the 930 will be discontinued too. Next maybe the 960 will come down from its ~$500+ price tag to ~$300 USD,....

Keep in mind that many people are looking to upgrade a 2yr old system or replace a 3yr old system. Buying now technically means an upgrade is due and a system replacement is 12 months away,....

LOL, just kidding but you know what I mean. The Core i7 line has been a little static and part of the little movment we are seeing now may be due to the AMD Phenom II X6 line.

BTW, anyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch might find this interesting:

Intel Desktop CPU Decoder iPhone App

The things I see that differ now are USB 3.0, SATA 6G and SSD tech getting cheaper (and therefore finding their way into more systems). Well that and video cards,...
