Re: Is this a normal business practice?

Why doesn't Cablevision send someone to pick up their equipment?

That would be pretty expensive.

they do my mom canceled service and they sent a tech to pick shit up.

He also made it a point to cut her line too. This was a few years ago though she was canceling for 6 months as she was going to be out the country.

They're already sending someone out to disconnect or filter the coax.

Because I would imagine that disconnects are low priority jobs that they have techs do when they have some time to kill, as opposed to being scheduled appointments.

Hookups and service calls would likely be a higher priority.

Would you want to sit around indefinately waiting for a tech to show up to pick up your hardware? I could see them doing it for a fee, but then people would complain that it's unfair.

They asked me what day I wanted my service disconnected and it was done on that day around 11 AM. So it would seem that disconnects are scheduled.

If equipment is picked up, they need to schedule the tech when someone is home, rather than just clip & move on. But the physical disconnects are loosely scheduled, and lower priority than the repair jobs. If the tech is running late, he's much more likely to push back the disconnect than to push back the repair.
