Ordered 15/5 -- Recieved 10/2

Hello All-
I had FIOS installed recently. I ordered 15/5 for the internet but it turns out it is 10/2. Since I remote into my home machine a lot, the upload is a big disappointment.

I found out from the tech installing that my internet is delivered over the telephone wire from the Utility Room on each floor of my building.

The 5 mb difference in download speed is not a concern, but the 3mb difference in upload is a concern. Is there any way to have this resolved?

Have you tried the FiOS Speed Optimizer?

The optimizer won't help, because I am provisioned for 10/2.

I'm just wondering if there is an recourse as I ordered 15/5 but not receiving it from Verizon.

If you are not provisioned for the speed you ordered, you'll have to call Verizon. There is nothing you can do yourself to fix it.

Were you by chance handed both a VDSL modem as well as an ActionTec router? Sounds like you might have gotten an MDU install over VDSL as you mentioned telephone wiring and a building. Verizon will generally sell up to 20Mbps/5Mbps off of a VDSL FiOS connection. You could give them a call to have them check the provisioning to make sure it is correct, as 15Mbps/5Mbps is doable.

Yes, I do have a Modem attached to a ActionTec router.

My only fear with calling Verizon is that this will somehow turn into a billing nightmare. I haven't received my first bill as of yet -- so I have no idea what it looks like, but its certainly a worry.

Should provisioning of my speed have anything to do with billing?

Billing is the department that handles changes in speed requests so if you are not getting what you ordered then you should contact them.

If you are leery of doing that then your other option is to drop a post in the Verizon Direct forum here and explain your problem.

One of the support techs will handle your problem and get it solved. I have used them in the past for anything FIOS related (Internet, phone, etc.) and they have always come through.

All the best.

How do you know you're provisioned for 10/2? Did the tech specifically tell you those numbers, or are you assuming 10/2 based on speedtest results?

That's what I'd like to know too. Have you checked your Verizon.net account to actually see what your provisioned tier is?

Verizon got rid of the 10/2 tier ever since the 15/5 tier was launched June 2008. There should be no way for Verizon to provision an old tier to a new account. Only grandfathered accounts that havn't been modified since 2008 would still have 10/2.

This is what it says on Verizon's website.

What URL are you picking that up on? Did you try the optimizer? 10/2 is about right for an unoptimized machine. 10/2 speed tier is obsolete, although I have it here because I never upgraded from the old 5/2 which was bumped up to 10/2 in 2009.

That means you are provisioned as 10/2 - NOT 15/5....

And since you posted you have a modem, that means you are VDSL - which VDSL modem do you have?

Definitely get hold of them, and get them to deliver what they promised you. We had some billing hassles early on, but once they managed to be sorted out, the last two years of service have been spot on fantastic. I even seem to pull 25Mbit down when I only signed up for 20.
