[Northeast] Can I use Airport Extreme with a Powerline Setup and

Please read this carefully and let me know if this will work.

The Problem

I have Verizon Fios Internet. Their Actiontec
router only provides minimal wireless coverage
across my large home.

I have an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station
but didn't get better results hooking it up to the
Actiontec router as a bridge.

So I got an Interesting Idea

Why not get the Belkin Powerline Adapter Kit.
These things are supposed to work great.

»www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-P ··· 4&sr=8-1

I plug it into my Actiontec router at one side
of the house and then plug it into a wall outlet
on the other.

Then....

I plug it into my Apple Airport Extreme Base
Station and essentially put it in AP (ACCESS
POINT) MODE to essentially repeat/extend the
signal of the Actiontec router.

Will this work?

If anyone wants to go as far as providing some
details of how to set that up it would be appreciated.

Re: [Northeast] Can I use Airport Extreme with a Powerline Setup

Yes, it will work.

There's not much to set up. The powerline adapters are "plug-and-play". No configuration required. For the best signal, make sure they are on the same "leg" of the power line.

You will want to make sure the AE and Actiontec are on different wireless channels so they don't interfere with each other. Applies to both G and N (N available on Actiontec ref. F and later).

If you use the same SSID and encryption key on both the Actiontec and the AE, the wireless device will automatically select the AP with the stronger signal.

If you use different SSIDs, you can explicitly choose which AP each device will use.

More Fiber,

This is good news.

I imagine all I will need to initially do is
plug the Apple Router into the Fios Adaptec
to configure?

Will I have to set up the Apple Router as
a bridge?

Other than the channel settings do you know
what specific settings I will have to set up in
the Apple Router? I realize you may not be
familiar with the Apple Airport Extreme base
station.

Thank you so much for the help thus far.

I actually run two Apple Airport Express APs in my home for complete coverage (nature of our home and wireless signals), although I'm using wired Ethernet rather than the powerline product for the extension. Works great. I don't use the Actiontec wireless simply because it's physical location wouldn't be helpful in any way, regardless of its signal capability. I see no reason why the powerline Ethernet transport wouldn't serve in the same way in your case.
