Finish Zone Or Move On Based On Level

I would like to know if people are finishing all the quests in a zone or moving on when they hit a new level.

To me it seems most of the quests are telling a zone wide story unlike those in TBC or WotLK. Is it better to get lower XP on mobs as you level but faster quests, or is it better to change zones and have the mobs at your level?

I don't necessarily give a rat's ass about the story, I just tend to want to finish what I've started. I usually don't move on until that dude quits putting little yellow exclamation marks over his head.

Depends on whether you think faster = better

I like the story the quests are telling, so I'm gonna follow the chain to its' conclusion before I move on. That probably isn't optimal for leveling but I really don't care. When I level my goblin alt I'll likely skip around.

I just go where I feel like going. Did some quests in Hyjal, some in Vashj'ire, did some archaeology... I'll eventually finish the zones off for cash and prizes but I don't focus on one zone or another.

Which bring up an interresting question. Is it faster to kill lvl 80 mobs in Hyjal for less XP but faster quest completions or is it better to fight lvl 81/82 mobs in the next zone which means more XP per mob but slightly slower quest XP as it takes just a little more time to kill those mobs?

So far the quests lead very nicely from one to the other and there isn't alot of running all over the zone for the quests.

I move on to new zones based on my level. Then when I'm level capped I go back and do the quests I skipped. At that point they go much faster and you get much more gold for them.

Not to mention you can start focusing more on dungeons and raiding while you do quests in between instead of prolonging the questing period.

So I think it's better to reach 85 as fast as you can and then go back later. That's what I'm doing.

I usually run the zones until I get the achievement then move onto the next area, in the past it was a good indication that I'd run out of quests. Cleared Mount Hyjal on Tuesday night there was about 15 quests after I got the achievement.

Moved onto Deepholm yesterday and got to 116/125 on the achievement and couldn't find anymore quests, had guildies say they had the same thing in Vashj'ir. Has anybody cleared these areas meaning I (and my guildies) have missed quests or is it a game issue?

my rule of thumb is to get to friendly with whatever faction is in that zone so I can buy their tabard and then move on.

Finish Zone for sure.

I find in the later quests in zones, it is much less crowded as most people move onto the next zone once they ding. Makes levelling more pleasurable. However, the starting quests in all the zones are ridiculous.

I'm going to finish as many quests in the same zone as I can that give disenchantable rewards for enchanting mats. I'm focusing on skilling up enchanting and by default I've gotten 1/2 way into 83 so far.

Yes but is it faster to stay in a zone or faster to move? And why would it be faster to move to the next zone?

I goy 117/125 in deepholm. I haven't really looked for anymore quest there yet. I'd like to get the achievement but I don't want to waste much time looking for quest. But I'm going bact there this afternoon to run the dailies and may fly around once to see if I can find anything else.

More XP for higher level quests, or faster questing from less people and easier quests. It's a debate as old as time...

this is why using an xp/hr meter (titanpanel has one... still looking for one that goes with chocolate bar) is useful. If you move up early and see the xp/hr drop... go back.

I've stuck exclusively to Vash so far and plan on completing all the quests there (I am only 82 and a half). I like to clear a zone completely so I know where to go when I want more quests after I max level.

Slightly off topic, but what sort of xp/hour are people getting? I'm averaging in the 500K to 600K per hour right now just doing quests. I have no idea if that is good, average or slow? This is non-rested exp sustained exp/hour over multiple hours by the way, and also includes my down time from getting a drink, taking a bio etc.

I think it took me about 2.5 hours to go from 81-82 solo questing. I could be off a bit, wasn't using any mods to determine this.

I use titan pannel, that's where my numbers come from. I can't remember how much exp there is in each level so I can't do a guestimate of your exp/hour.
